A distributed SVM for image annotation
2010 Seventh International Conference on Fuzzy Systems and Knowledge Discovery, 2010The popularity of SVMs has grown tremendously in the last few years for many different classification problems due to its generalization properties, however training SVMs require high computational power. Platt's SMO is one the fastest algorithm for training support vector machines, which takes the decomposition technique to the extreme by selecting a ...

Image Annotation in a Progressive Way
Multimedia and Expo, 2007 IEEE International Conference on, 2007Automatic image annotation is crucial for keyword-based image retrieval because it can be used to improve the textual description of images efficiently. For this purpose, many methods have been developed. Due to the restrictions of computational complexity and small training set, the image annotation methods are usually based on the probability of ...

Semi-automatic Image Annotation
2013High quality ground truth data is essential for the development of image recognition systems. General purpose datasets are widely used in research, but they are not suitable as training sets for specialized real-world recognition tasks. The manual annotation of custom ground truth data sets is expensive, but machine learning techniques can be applied ...

Haptic annotation for an interactive image
Proceedings of the 5th International Conference on Ubiquitous Information Management and Communication, 2011This paper proposes a method for constructing a 3D model with mechanical properties by embedding multiple haptic maps into an ordinary 2D image. The haptic information described in this paper consists of the depth, stiffness, and viscous damping distribution, each of which takes the form of a 2D grayscale image.

Semantic Annotation of Images.
2008Annotation gives more meaning to the content, explanation or annotation is sometims a necessity for multimedia content but during data transaction annotations can be lost if it is not combined with the data. For different people from different cultures, different languages and different ideas sometimes describing the same thing would be completely ...

Image retrieval most commonly uses text-based search, which requires the availability of image annotations. As digital photos are growing rapidly in number, making manual image annotation impractical, the need for automatic image annotation is evident.

Proceedings of the 6th ACM international conference on Image and video retrieval, 2007
This paper describes an efficient approach to image annotation. It ranked first on the recent scene categorization track of the ImagEVAL1 benchmark. We show how homogeneous global image descriptors combined with a pool of Support Vector Machines achieve very good results.

On cross-language image annotations
2009 IEEE International Conference on Multimedia and Expo, 2009Automatic annotation of digital pictures is a key technology for managing and retrieving images from large image collections. Typical algorithms only deal with the problem of monolingual image annotation. In this paper, we propose a framework to deal with the problem of multilingual image annotation, which can annotate images in multiple languages. The

Face detection for image annotation
Pattern Recognition Letters, 1999Abstract The problem of face detection in images – locating image areas corresponding to human faces – has received a considerable amount of attention in recent years due to numerous possible applications. In this paper, we describe a face detection system for an image annotation task that requires detection of faces at multiple scales against a ...

Image Annotation with Weak Labels
2013In this paper, we address the problem of image annotation when the given labels of training image are incomplete, inaccurate, and unevenly distributed, in the form of weak labels, which is frequently encountered when dealing with large scale web image training set.
