Imaging Coral II: Using Ultrasound to Image Coral Skeleton [PDF]
We report on imaging of coral skeletal densities using pulse-echo ultrasound. Focused ultrasound transducers with frequencies ranging from 1 to 5 MHz were used to image coral skeletal samples. Each transducer was scanned over the surface of a coral and the reflected signal from the coral was recorded.

Gap Filling of 3-D Microvascular Networks by Tensor Voting [PDF]
We present a new algorithm which merges discontinuities in 3-D images of tubular structures presenting undesirable gaps. The application of the proposed method is mainly associated to large 3-D images of microvascular networks.

A Phase Field Model for Continuous Clustering on Vector Fields [PDF]
A new method for the simplification of flow fields is presented. It is based on continuous clustering. A well-known physical clustering model, the Cahn Hilliard model, which describes phase separation, is modified to reflect the properties of the data to

Quantitative Evaluation of Dense Skeletons for Image Compression
Skeletons are well-known descriptors used for analysis and processing of 2D binary images. Recently, dense skeletons have been proposed as an extension of classical skeletons as a dual encoding for 2D grayscale and color images. Yet, their encoding power,

3D imaging and morphometric descriptors of vascular networks on optically cleared organs
Summary: The vascular system is a multi-scale network whose functionality depends on its structure, and for which structural alterations can be linked to pathological shifts.

Parameter-free binarization and skeletonization of fiber networks from confocal image stacks. [PDF]
We present a method to reconstruct a disordered network of thin biopolymers, such as collagen gels, from three-dimensional (3D) image stacks recorded with a confocal microscope.

The Intensity Profile of the Solar Supergranulation [PDF]
We have measured the average radial (cell center to network boundary) profile of the continuum intensity contrast associated with supergranular flows using data from the Precision Solar Photometric Telescope (PSPT) at the Mauna Loa Solar Observatory ...

Automation Process for Morphometric Analysis of Volumetric CT Data from Pulmonary Vasculature in Rats [PDF]
With advances in medical imaging scanners, it has become commonplace to generate large multidimensional datasets. These datasets require tools for a rapid, thorough analysis. To address this need, we have developed an automated algorithm for morphometric

Large-scale motions from a direct numerical simulation of a turbulent boundary layer [PDF]
A study of large-scale motions from a new direct numerical simulation database of the turbulent boundary layer up to Re{\theta} ~ 2500 is presented. The statistics of large-scale streamwise structures have been investigated using two-dimensional and ...
