An algorithm for compression of bilevel images

IEEE Transactions on Image Processing, 2001
This paper presents the block arithmetic coding for image compression (BACIC) algorithm: a new method for lossless bilevel image compression which can replace JBIG, the current standard for bilevel image compression. BACIC uses the block arithmetic coder (BAC): a simple, efficient, easy-to-implement, variable-to-fixed arithmetic coder, to encode images.

An adaptive image enhancement algorithm

Pattern Recognition, 1997
Image enhancement is a common procedure intended to process an image so that the resulting processed image is more suitable than the original one for a given application. Spatial filtering is a well-known procedure to achieve this goal. Low-pass filtering smooths the image and is often used as a preprocessing step to image analysis, removing small ...

In-Place Algorithm for Image Rotation

2007
This paper presents an algorithm for rotating a subimage in place without using any extra working array. Due to this constraint, we have to overwrite pixel values by interpolated values. Key ideas are local reliability test which determines whether interpolation at a pixel is carried out correctly without using interpolated values, and lazy ...

A restoration algorithm of fingerprint images

Systems and Computers in Japan, 1986
AbstractThis paper discusses noise elimination and restoration of the ridge structure of fingerprints in preprocessing for automatic fingerprint identification. The basic idea is as follows. The object image is partitioned into 64 × 64 unit regions with 8 pixels as edge.

A Survey of Image Encryption Algorithms

2021 International Conference on Information Technology (ICIT), 2021
Data and image security is one of the most important aspects of information storage as well as the massive and still expanding internet. The frequent use of images of various types, especially images of documents, requires efficient encryption algorithms to ensure the security and stability of image storage and transmission.

Photoacoustic imaging with deconvolution algorithm

Physics in Medicine and Biology, 2004
The impulse response of the ultrasonic transducer used for detection is crucial for photoacoustic imaging with high resolution. We demonstrate a reconstruction method that allows the optical absorption distribution of a sample to be reconstructed without knowing the impulse response of the ultrasonic transducer.

An Improved Image Reconstruction Algorithm

2018 5th IEEE International Conference on Cloud Computing and Intelligence Systems (CCIS), 2018
Keeping less valid data to obtain necessary information has become a new requirement in the signal-processing field. The paper employs adaptive dictionary for sparse representation, introduces a characteristic-weighting coefficient to offer detailed image information, and meanwhile performs Schmidt orthogonalization with the combination of Gaussian ...

A segmentation algorithm for color images

Pattern Recognition Letters, 1993
Abstract A method that combines clustering and region merging for color image segmentation is presented. We start with clustering based on recursive one-dimensional histogram analysis, where the parameter that controls the segmentation process has been set to produce an oversegmentation.

Image Space Colonization Algorithm

2006
This paper describes an image segmentation method based on an evolutionary approach. Unlike other application of evolutionary algorithms to this problem, our method does not require the definition of a global fitness function. Instead a survival probability for each individual guides the progress of the algorithm.
