Holiness, in Particular: A Proposal for Understanding Qedushah
Abstract Beginning from an intriguing essay by the mid‐twentieth century Jewish thinker Leon Roth, I offer here an account of what “holiness” might mean for Jews by moving between readings of specifically Jewish texts and a series of general desiderata for any account of holiness.

‘I was Born in One City, but Raised in Another’: Aretino's Perugian Apprenticeship
Abstract According to his apocrypha, Aretino was forced to flee his hometown of Arezzo after penning some anti‐papal verses. Similarly, it is claimed that he fled Perugia ten years later after painting a lute into the hands of a depiction of the Maddalena, which stood in one of the town's piazze.

Literalising Metaphor in the Poetry of Robert Southwell☆
Abstract This article focuses on a distinctive feature of Robert Southwell's poetic technique, namely, his approach to metaphor. I argue that a number of Southwell's metaphors have a surprisingly literal quality where their vehicles are given greater prominence than their tenors.
