The CUBE virtual reality immersion

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Physics
The purpose of this note is to introduce the CUBE, a virtual reality immersion that was developed to help visualize electromagnetic fields, particularly the less familiar radiation fields students typically encounter in upper level physics courses. We discuss the pedagogical motivation for different features found in the software, and provide a brief ...

Mechanically Spatio‐Chimeric Fibrin Assembly Enables Vascular‐Integrated Muscle Reconstruction for Volumetric Muscle Loss Repair

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
SPARC (spatio‐chimeric, plasma‐based, anisotropic, and shear‐responsive construct) that integrates myogenic and vascular microenvironments within a single construct. The dual‐modulus matrix directs aligned myotube formation and endothelial network development, enabling a vascularized muscle implant that seamlessly anastomoses with host tissue and ...

Virtual reality in Italy in the early Nineties

open access: yespiano b, 2022
The question of virtual reality first reached attention in Italy in 1990 with the Mondi Virtuali (Virtual Worlds) conference, curated by Maria Grazia Mattei at Palazzo Fortuny. The artists tackling this subject included significant figures in the Italian

Self Representation and Interaction in Immersive Virtual Reality

open access: yesProceedings of the 16th International Joint Conference on Computer Vision, Imaging and Computer Graphics Theory and Applications, 2021
Inserting a self-representation in Virtual Reality is an open problem with several implications for both the sense of presence and interaction in virtual environments. To cope the problem with low cost devices, we devise a framework to align the measurements of different acquisition devices used while wearing a tracked VR head-mounted display (HMD ...

Transducers Across Scales and Frequencies: A System‐Level Framework for Multiphysics Integration and Co‐Design

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Transducers convert physical signals into electrical and optical representations, yet each mechanism is bounded by intrinsic trade‐offs across bandwidth, sensitivity, speed, and energy. This review maps transduction mechanisms across physical scale and frequency, showing how heterogeneous integration and multiphysics co‐design transform isolated ...

Welcome to Wonderland : the influence of the size and shape of a virtual hand on the perceived size and shape of virtual objects [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The notion of body-based scaling suggests that our body and its action capabilities are used to scale the spatial layout of the environment. Here we present four studies supporting this perspective by showing that the hand acts as a metric which ...

Aluminum Oxynitride‐Engineered Transparent Aluminum Nitride Resistive Memory for Low‐Leakage Multilevel Switching in Micro‐LED Pixels

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
An AlON interfacial layer is engineered within an AlN switching layer to enable transparent RRAM with four stable resistance states. The device achieves low‐voltage multilevel switching and a high HRS, allowing precise grayscale modulation and preventing light leakage in micro‐LEDs operated at VDD = 2.7 V.
