Keratin 19 as a prognostic marker and contributing factor of metastasis and chemoresistance in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Keratin 19 (KRT19) is overexpressed in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer with high levels of Kallikrein‐related peptidases (KLK) 4–7 and is associated with poor survival. In vivo analyses demonstrate that elevated KRT19 increases peritoneal tumour burden.

The role of nitric oxide synthase in biofilm formation by Staphylococcus aureus

open access: yesnpj Biofilms and Microbiomes
Staphylococcus aureus is capable of colonizing diverse environments and forming biofilms. In this study, we found that the knockout of NO synthase (NOS) impaired biofilm integrity, resulting in weakened biofilms.

Deep learning-based assessment of PD-L1 expression in NSCLC predicts outcome for patients treated with anti-PD-1 immunotherapy

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology
BackgroundPD-L1 expression is widely used as a predictive biomarker for anti-PD-1 therapies in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). However, its prognostic value remains controversial.

Serotonergic chemosensory neurons modify the C. elegans immune response by regulating G-protein signaling in epithelial cells. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The nervous and immune systems influence each other, allowing animals to rapidly protect themselves from changes in their internal and external environment.

Establishment of a humanized patient‐derived xenograft mouse model of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer for preclinical evaluation of combination immunotherapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We have established a humanized orthotopic patient‐derived xenograft (Hu‐oPDX) mouse model of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC) that recapitulates human tumor–immune interactions. Using combined anti‐PD‐L1/anti‐CD73 immunotherapy, we demonstrate the model's improved biological relevance and enhanced translational value for preclinical ...

Hippo pathway at the crossroads of stemness and therapeutic resistance in breast cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dysregulation of the Hippo pathway drives nuclear accumulation of YAP/TAZ, activating stemness‐related transcriptional programs that sustain breast cancer stemness and fuel therapeutic resistance across subtypes, underscoring Hippo signaling as a targetable vulnerability. Figure created and edited with BioRender.com.

Circadian fluctuation of soluble CD26 dictates the impact of the timing of cord blood transplantation on acute graft-versus-host disease

open access: yesNature Communications
Allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) is a cornerstone treatment for many malignant and nonmalignant hematological diseases. Our recent research demonstrated that early-day stem cell infusions significantly reduce the incidence ...

Immune responses to Fasciola hepatica infection, and Fasciola hepatica derived antigens [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
The aim of this study was to investigate immune responses as a result of infection with the parasitic helminth, Fasciola hepatica. Analysis of IL-4 and Interferon-y cytokines described a predominant type 2 immune response in BALB/c mice infected with ...

Deciphering transcriptional plasticity in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma reveals alterations in sensory neuron innervation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pancreatic sensory neurons innervating healthy and PDAC tissue were retrogradely labeled and profiled by single‐cell RNA sequencing. Tumor‐associated innervation showed a dominant neurofilament‐positive subtype, altered mitochondrial gene signatures, and reduced non‐peptidergic neurons.
