Nasal priming with immunobiotic lactobacilli improves the adaptive immune response against influenza virus

International Immunopharmacology, 2020
The nasal priming with Lactobacillus rhamnosus CRL1505 modulates the respiratory antiviral innate immune response and improves protection against influenza virus (IFV) challenge in mice. However, the potential beneficial effect of the CRL1505 strain on the adaptive immune response triggered by IFV infection or vaccination was not evaluated before.

- Immunobiotics and Antiviral Immunity

2013
Viruses are very tiny organic structures consisting of either DNA or RNA encapsulated within a protein shell called capsid. Since viruses cannot reproduce by themselves because of the simplicity of their components, they must infect other living organisms, utilize the metabolic pathways of the host cell to reproduce viral components, and assemble ...

Synthetic Immunobiotics: A Future Success Story in Small Molecule-Based Immunotherapy?

ACS Infectious Diseases, 2018
Drug resistance to our current stock of antibiotics is projected to increase to levels that threaten our ability to reduce and eliminate bacterial infections, which is now considered one of the primary health care crises of the 21st century. Traditional antibiotic agents (e.g., penicillin) paved the way for massive advances in human health, but we need

Immunobiotics: Novel Approaches To Strengthening The Immune System Using Microorganisms

American Journal Of Biomedical Science & Pharmaceutical Innovation
The discovery of immunobiotics has opened a new era in microbiology and immunology, combining microbial biotechnology with immune system regulation. Immunobiotics—specific strains of probiotic microorganisms—can stimulate or modulate host immunity by interacting with mucosal cells, cytokines, and immune receptors.

Cross-species immune activation and immunobiotics: a new frontier in vector-borne pathogen control

Trends in Parasitology
The persistent global burden of vector-borne diseases (VBDs) needs innovative control strategies, as traditional methods are compromised by acaricides and drug resistance and variable vaccine efficacy. We propose a dual-action strategy using cross-species immune activation: human microbiota triggers the production of natural antibodies that directly ...
