Combined 5‐aminolevulinic acid and ferric ammonium citrate treatment promotes hair follicle growth by activating dermal papilla cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
5‐Aminolevulinic acid combined with ferric ammonium citrate (5‐ALA/FAC) stimulates dermal papilla cell activity and promotes hair follicle growth. The treatment enhances ERK and AKT signaling, increases hair‐inductive gene expression, and restores dermal papilla function suppressed by dihydrotestosterone and oxidative stress, resulting in enhanced hair

Neospora caninum immunoblotting improves serodiagnosisof bovine neosporosis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Neospora caninum ranges among the major causes of infectious abortion in cattle worldwide. The present study was designed to improve the serodiagnostic tools by complementing a conventional ELISA with a highly sensitive and species-specific N.

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Atorvastatin action involves diminished recovery of hepatic HMG-CoA reductase activity

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1998
The effects of atorvastatin on the expression of the hepatic HMG-CoA reductase and LDL receptor genes were investigated in rats. Like the other statins, atorvastatin increased the rate of degradation and presumably cycling of the hepatic LDL receptor. In

YIPFα1A expression is regulated by multilayered molecular mechanisms

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
YIPFα1A, a five‐pass Golgi protein, is regulated at multiple layers. (1) Rare‐codon enrichment drives translation‐coupled mRNA decay. (2) A proximal 3′‐UTR element stabilizes mRNA. (3) A distal 3′‐UTR element included by alternate poly(A) site usage represses translation, which can be overridden by the proximal 3′‐UTR element.

Brain mGluR5 in Shank3B−/− Mice Studied With in vivo [18F]FPEB PET Imaging and ex vivo Immunoblotting

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychiatry, 2019
Although several studies have found that metabotropic glutamate 5 receptor (mGluR5) may play an important role in autism spectrum disorders (ASD), the mechanisms remain unclear.

Characterization of Cryoglobulins by Immunoblotting

open access: yesClinical Chemistry, 1992
Abstract We adapted an immunoblotting technique for the immunochemical characterization of cryoglobulins. We first compared the results from 157 samples with results obtained by immunofixation and immunoelectrophoresis and then with clinical observations in 125 cases. Full identification was possible in 98% of the cases by immunoblotting,

SDS-PAGE and immunoblotting of IgG fractions involved in hemolysis.

open access: yes, 2014
Immunoblotting was performed using rabbit anti-human IgG antisera (1∶1,000) and goat anti-rabbit IgG-HRP (1∶2,000) as the primary and secondary antibodies, respectively.

One size does not fit all: An in vitro evaluation of the effects of bezafibrate and medroxyprogesterone acetate on human SH‐SY5Y and U‐87 MG cancer cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Drugs previously repurposed to target blood cancers reduced neuroblastoma and glioblastoma cell growth and viability. However, their levels of anticancer activity were different and their clinical application may be problematic due to side effects at effective doses.

Western immunoblotting in avian shell gland sample immunoblotting methods

open access: yesPoultry Science, 2004
Avian shell gland tissue was subjected to Western blot analysis using anti-human estrogen receptor-alpha antibody H222. Initial attempts to obtain consistent, high-quality blots were unsuccessful because, as it turned out, excessive lipid in tissue preparations interfered with protein separation. Incremental additions of acetone eventually proved to be
