Abnormal motoneuron migration, differentiation, and axon outgrowth in spinal muscular atrophy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The role of heterotopic (migratory) motoneurons (HMN) in the pathogenesis of spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is still controversial. We examined the occurrence and amount of HMN in spinal cord tissue from eight children with SMA (six with SMA-I and two ...

Cell Surface Thiol Engineering Mechanoregulates Myogenic Differentiation via the FAK–PI3K–AKT Axis

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Schematic diagram illustrating how cell surface modification of skeletal muscle progenitor cells through TCEP treatment reveals enhanced cell adhesion, intracellular tension, and myogenesis at 19.66 kPa stiffness, leading to optimal cell fusion. In contrast, no significant changes are observed in the softer (10.61 kPa) or stiffer (49.4 kPa) matrices ...

Evaluation of immunocytochemistry on destained giemsa stained smears as an alternative to conventional technique

open access: yesIndian Journal of Pathology and Microbiology, 2022
Introduction: Protocol for immunocytochemical (ICC) staining in May-Grünwald Giemsa (MGG)–stained smears has been difficult to establish. It is the need of the hour to be able to use prestained slides for ICC in specific cases to deliver timely diagnoses

Immunocytochemistry of calciosomes in liver and pancreas. [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of cell biology, 1988
Calciosomes are small cytoplasmic vacuoles identified in various nonmuscle cell types by their content of protein(s) similar to calsequestrin (CS), the Ca2+ storage protein of the muscle sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR). These entities have been interpreted as the "primitive" counterpart of the SR, and suggested to be the organelle target of inositol-1,4,5 ...

Lithium‐Charged Gold Nanoparticles: A New Powerful Tool for Lithium Delivery and Modulation of Glycogen Synthase Kinase 3 Activity

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces glutathione‐stabilized gold nanoparticles for targeted lithium delivery (LiG‐AuNPs), enabling the controlled modulation of Glycogen Synthase Kinase‐3 (GSK‐3β). These non‐toxic, 2‐nm particles release lithium intracellularly, effectively inhibiting GSK‐3β in the brain without significant plasma lithium alterations.

The neonatal splice variant of Nav1.5 potentiates in vitro invasive behaviour of MDA-MB-231 human breast cancer cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Upregulation of functional voltage-gated Na+ channels (VGSCs) occurs in metastatic human breast cancer (BCa) in vitro and in vivo. The present study aimed to ascertain the specific involvement of the 'neonatal' splice variant of Nav1.5 (nNav1.5), thought

RAD21L1 Is Sufficient and Effective for Reprogramming Human Sertoli Cells to Phenotypic Spermatogonial Stem Cells Through DNA Methylation and Essential for Male Fertility

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
RAD21L1 is upregulated in human Sertoli cells to be transited to become spermatogonial stem cells by overexpressing DAZ family three genes. RAD21L1 is sufficient and effective for reprogramming Sertoli cells into human spermatogonial stem cells with high safety through DNA methylation.

Changes in the cerebellar cytoarchitecture of hibernating hedgehog Erinaceus europaeus L. (Mammalia): an immunocytochemical approach

open access: yesThe European Zoological Journal, 2017
Hibernation is an amazing animal strategy to survive when the environmental temperature is very low and food resources are scarce. Successful hibernation requires a variety of complex biological adaptations, in which the brain plays a central regulatory ...
