First described in 1968 by pathologist Jean Berger, it was regarded for many years as a benign condition.

Human hybrid immunoglobulin M containing immunoglobulin A
In Vitro Cellular & Developmental Biology, 1988Some hybridoma clones made by fusion of a human lymphoblastoid cell line, HO323 with human B lymphocytes, secreted not only IgA but also IgM-like immunoglobulin molecules. The IgM-like immunoglobulin had a molecular size of 900 K which corresponded to that of IgM. Immunochemical analyses revealed that the IgM-like immunoglobulin contained two monomeric

Abstract Immunoglobulin A (IgA) nephropathy is the most common primary glomerulonephritis. It runs a slow and sometimes relentless clinical course with consequent end-stage renal failure in 35–40% of patients 25–30 years after first clinical presentation.

ONE of the important recent advances in modern immunology is the recognition that antibody activity is associated with a group of multichain proteins of varying mobility and molecular size. Normal serum probably contains hundreds of different antibodies, each being individually specific in its sequence of amino acids.

In an examination of 16 human immunoglobulin lambda-light chains, one was found to have amino acid substitutions which have not previously been reported for the constant region of the lambda-chains. It involved in two positions: an arginine instead of lysine at position 130, and a leucine for glutamine at position 195 (Sh numbering (1) ).

Serologic study of immunoglobulin A-fibronectin aggregates in immunoglobulin a nephropathy
American Journal of Kidney Diseases, 1996The immunoglobulin A (IgA)-fibronectin aggregates, detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay using either antifibronectin or collagen I as binding protein, were previously found to be raised in the circulation of patients with IgA nephropathy (IgAN). It has been suggested that IgA-fibronectin aggregates are involved in the pathogenesis and that the

Secretory immunoglobulin A and immunoglobulin G in horse saliva
Veterinary Immunology and Immunopathology, 2016This study aimed to increase the knowledge on salivary antibodies in the horse since these constitute an important part of the immune defence of the oral cavity. For that purpose assays to detect horse immunoglobulin A (IgA) including secretory IgA (SIgA) were set up and the molecular weights of different components of the horse IgA system were ...

Immunoglobulin subclasses and HLA alleles in immunoglobulin A deficiency
The Indian Journal of Pediatrics, 2003The term "IgA Deficiency (IgAD)" should be reserved for the individuals who do not have detectable disorders known to be associated with low IgA levels. IgG subclass deficiency or a lack of the IgG2 subclass that is specific against polysaccharide antigens, can be seen in many cases.Forty-five patients (27 males and 18 females; mean age 8.6 years ...

Immunoglobulin A1 protease: A new therapeutic candidate for immunoglobulin A nephropathy
Nephrology, 2010ABSTRACTImmunoglobulin A nephropathy (IgAN), characterized by predominant or exclusive deposition of IgA1 in glomerular mesangium, is the most common primary glomerulonephritis worldwide. At present, the treatment is always limited due to the incomplete understanding of the pathogenesis of IgAN.
