NAD+ regeneration by mitochondrial complex I NADH dehydrogenase is important for cancer cell proliferation. Specifically, NAD+ is necessary for the activities of NAD+‐dependent deacetylases SIRT3 and SIRT7, which suppress the expression of p21Cip1 cyclin‐dependent kinase inhibitor, an antiproliferative molecule, at the translational and transcriptional

Immunoglobulin concentration in blood serum of postcolostral calves: Ratio between immunoglobulin level and appearance of enzootic pneumonia [PDF]
The timely supply of newborn calves with optimal quantities of colostrum has a key role in the process of immune protection in the early phase of their lives.

Beyond Vaccination Rates: A Synthetic Random Proxy Metric of Total SARS-CoV-2 Immunity Seroprevalence in the Community [PDF]
Explicit knowledge of total community-level immune seroprevalence is critical to developing policies to mitigate the social and clinical impact of SARS-CoV-2. Publicly available vaccination data are frequently cited as a proxy for population immunity, but this metric ignores the effects of naturally-acquired immunity, which varies broadly throughout ...

Probing protein orientation near charged nanosurfaces for simulation-assisted biosensor design [PDF]
Protein-surface interactions are ubiquitous in biological processes and bioengineering, yet are not fully understood. In biosensors, a key factor determining the sensitivity and thus the performance of the device is the orientation of the ligand molecules on the bioactive device surface.

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma patient‐derived xenografts (PDAC‐PDXs) engrafted orthotopically in the pancreas of immunodeficient mice retain the main genetic and histopathological characteristics of the original human tumors. A 294 stroma gene signature differentiates between PDAC‐PDXs that are responsive to gemcitabine plus nab‐paclitaxel versus ...

Peripheral blood proteome biomarkers distinguish immunosuppressive features of cancer progression
Immune status significantly influences cancer progression. This study used plasma proteomics to analyze benign 67NR and malignant 4T1 breast tumor models at early and late tumor stages. Immune‐related proteins–osteopontin (Spp1), lactotransferrin (Ltf), calreticulin (Calr) and peroxiredoxin 2 (Prdx2)–were associated with systemic myeloid‐derived ...

Metabolism of Immunoglobulin-G in the Horse [PDF]
The metabolism of immunoglobulin classes has been closely examined in several animal species. Although the horse has received much attention in experimental and applied immunology there seems to be little information available on immunoglobulin kinetics in this species.

This study investigates an alternative approach to reactivating the oncosuppressor p53 in cancer. A short peptide targeting the association of the two p53 inhibitors, MDM2 and MDM4, induces an otherwise therapeutically active p53 with unique features that promote cell death and potentially reduce toxicity towards proliferating nontumor cells.

Split-peak determination of protein adsorption kinetics in high-performance affinity chromatography [PDF]
Equations were derived to describe the unusual chromatographic situation in which part of a sample of pure analyte elutes in the nonretained peak while the remainder is strongly retained.
