Association between HIV genotype, viral load and disease progression in a cohort of Thai men who have sex with men with estimated dates of HIV infection. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2018
BACKGROUND:Differences between HIV genotypes may affect HIV disease progression. We examined infecting HIV genotypes and their association with disease progression in a cohort of men who have sex with men with incident HIV infection in Bangkok, Thailand.

Hijacking emergency granulopoiesis: Neutrophil ontogeny and reprogramming in cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Neutrophils are highly plastic innate immune cells; their functions in cancer extend beyond the tumour microenvironment. This Review summarises current understanding of neutrophil maturation and heterogeneity and highlights tumour‐induced granulopoiesis as a systemic programme that expands immature, immunosuppressive neutrophils via tumour‐derived ...

Does endometriosis increase susceptibility to COVID-19 infections? A case–control study in women of reproductive age

open access: yesBMC Women's Health, 2021
Background In today’s world, coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is the most critical health problem and research is continued on studying the associated factors. But it is not clear whether endometriosis increases the risk of COVID-19. Methods Women who

Transcriptional profiling of circulating extracellular vesicles from prebiopsy prostate cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
RNA profiling of circulating extracellular vesicles (EVs) from blood samples of men undergoing prostate biopsy identifies transcripts associated with clinically significant prostate cancer. Integrative analysis with public tumor datasets links EV‐derived gene signatures to tumor stage and progression‐free survival, highlighting CASP3, XRCC2, and RIT1 ...

Cytogenetic, Inflammatory, Immunologic, and Infectious Basis for Dysplastic Hematopoeisis

open access: yes, 2017
Myelodysplastic syndrome is a heterogeneous immunologic and epigenetic group of myeloid disorders with variable propensity for acute myelogenous leukemia (AML) conversion. Treatment is limited to growth factors, lenalidomide for 5q deletion MDS, and best

Interaction of HS1BP3 with cortactin modulates TKS5 localisation, cell secretion and cancer malignancy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Here, we demonstrate that HS1BP3 interacts with Cortactin through a proline‐rich region (PRR3.1) and show that this interaction, and HS1BP3 itself, promote cancer cell proliferation and invasion. Inhibition of this interaction leads to build‐up of TKS5 in multivesicular endosomes and altered secretion of CD63 and CD9, providing an explanation for the ...

Chronic renal allograft rejection: Immunologic and nonimmunologic risk factors

open access: yes, 1996
Chronic renal allograft rejection: Immunologic and nonimmunologic risk factors. The pathogenesis of chronic renal allograft rejection is unknown. It is also unclear why cyclosporine has failed to prevent chronic rejection.

Chicken consumption and use of acid-suppressing medications as risk factors for Campylobacter enteritis, England. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
In a case-control study of Campylobacter spp. risk factors in England during 2005-2006, we identified recent consumption of commercially prepared chicken as an important risk factor.

Immunologic Factors in the Recurrence of Glioma

open access: yesNeurologia medico-chirurgica, 1988
Glioma often recurs after apparently successful treatment and clinical remission. The effect of the host's immunologic status in such cases is unknown. In this study, the authors attempted to answer the following questions: 1) Is there a relationship between immunity and the recurrence of glioma?

Developmental programmes drive cellular plasticity, disease progression and therapy resistance in lung adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study shows that lung adenocarcinomas exploit developmental branching morphogenesis to acquire a therapy resistant basal‐like tumour cell state. This process was found to be regulated by combined TP53 loss‐of‐function and type‐I interferon signalling, identifying a novel axis for biomarker and therapeutic target discovery.
