Gut microbiota alterations in patients with non‐small‐cell lung cancer undergoing chemoradiotherapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We investigated the impact of concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CRT) on the gut microbiota in patients with locally advanced non‐small‐cell lung cancer. Overall gut microbiota composition remained largely stable throughout CRT while antibiotic exposure may influence microbial diversity.

CDC's global infectious disease strategy [PDF]

open access: yes
Because U.S. and international health are inextricably linked, the fulfillment of CDC's domestic mission-to protect the health of the U.S. population-requires global awareness and strategic thinking.

BRD7 as key factor in PBAF complex assembly and CD8+ T cell differentiation

open access: yesJCI Insight
Upon infection, naive CD8+ T cells differentiate into cytotoxic effector cells to eliminate the pathogen-infected cells. Although many mechanisms underlying this process have been demonstrated, the regulatory role of chromatin remodeling system in this ...

The role of pro-resolution lipid mediators in infectious disease

open access: yesImmunology, 2014
Inflammation is an essential host defence against infection, but can be damaging when excessive. Resolution of inflammation is an active process, and the pro‐resolution effects of lipoxins, resolvins and protectins have received significant interest ...

Predictive and prognostic biomarkers of Bacillus Calmette‐Guérin therapy failure in bladder cancer patients: A systematic review

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
High‐risk bladder cancer is typically treated with Bacillus Calmette‐Guérin (BCG), but 30–40% of patients relapse. No FDA‐ or CE‐approved biomarkers currently predict or prognosticate BCG failure. We systematically reviewed the literature and identified 72 eligible studies, revealing several promising biomarkers associated with BCG treatment response ...

Pathobiont-driven antibody sialylation through IL-10 undermines vaccination

open access: yesThe Journal of Clinical Investigation
The pathobiont Staphylococcus aureus (Sa) induces nonprotective antibody imprints that underlie ineffective staphylococcal vaccination. However, the mechanism by which Sa modifies antibody activity is not clear.

Dystrophin gene expression and intracellular calcium changes in the giant freshwater prawn, Macrobrachium rosenbergii, in response to white spot symptom disease infection

open access: yesHeliyon, 2017
Background: Dystrophin, an essential protein functional in the maintenance of muscle structural integrity is known to be responsible for muscle deterioration during white spot syndrome virus (WSSV) infection among prawn species.

Biochemistry and Immunology of Infectious Bursal Disease Virus

open access: yesJournal of General Virology, 1988
Introduction. The aetiological agent of infectious bursal disease (IBD), IBD virus (IBDV), belongs to a new group of viruses referred to as ‘birnaviruses’ (Dobos et al., 1979), which has been characterized only recently (Brown, 1986). There are excellent reviews dealing with the clinical, pathological, serological and epidemiological aspects of IBDV ...

Electrochemical protein biosensors for disease marker detection: progress and opportunities

open access: yesMicrosystems & Nanoengineering
The development of artificial intelligence-enabled medical health care has created both opportunities and challenges for next-generation biosensor technology. Proteins are extensively used as biological macromolecular markers in disease diagnosis and the
