Venetoclax‐Based Therapy as a Bridge to Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation in Relapsed or Refractory Pediatric Acute Leukemia

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Relapsed and/or refractory (R/R) pediatric acute leukemia carries a dismal prognosis, largely driven by chemoresistance to conventional salvage therapy. The BH3‐mimetic venetoclax, combined with chemotherapy or hypomethylating agents, has demonstrated efficacy in small clinical trials.

NK cells require immune checkpoint receptor LILRB4/gp49B to control neurotropic Zika virus infections in mice

open access: yesJCI Insight, 2022
Immune cells express an array of inhibitory checkpoint receptors that are upregulated upon activation and limit tissue damage associated with excessive response to pathogens or allergens.

Bovine Immunology: Implications for Dairy Cattle

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2021
The growing world population (7.8 billion) exerts an increased pressure on the cattle industry amongst others. Intensification and expansion of milk and beef production inevitably leads to increased risk of infectious disease spread and exacerbation ...

Classical Complement Pathway Inhibition in a Pediatric Patient With Refractory Immune Thrombocytopenia

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Pediatric refractory immune thrombocytopenia (rITP) is generally characterized by persistent thrombocytopenia and failure to achieve a sustained response to multiple standard therapies. We report a 4‐year‐old female with congenital tufting enteropathy, post‐intestinal transplant patient on immunosuppressants, who developed severe rITP ...

A two-component model for counts of infectious diseases [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
We propose a stochastic model for the analysis of time series of disease counts as collected in typical surveillance systems on notifiable infectious diseases.

Impairing RAGE signaling promotes survival and limits disease pathogenesis following SARS-CoV-2 infection in mice

open access: yesJCI Insight, 2022
Cellular and molecular mechanisms driving morbidity following SARS-CoV-2 infection have not been well defined. The receptor for advanced glycation end products (RAGE) is a central mediator of tissue injury and contributes to SARS-CoV-2 disease ...

Abatacept for Prophylaxis of Acute and Chronic Graft‐Versus‐Host‐Disease in Children Undergoing Allogeneic Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation—A Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis of Cohort Studies

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Graft‐versus‐host disease (GvHD) remains one of the most significant complications of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). Abatacept, a selective T‐cell costimulation modulator, is a relatively novel prophylactic agent, though pediatric data remain limited.
