Periodontitis, Edentulism, and Risk of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD): A Systematic Review With Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesJournal of Periodontal Research, EarlyView.
This systematic review with meta‐analyzes evaluated the relationship between periodontitis, severe periodontitis, edentulism, and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). While longitudinal studies suggested a modest association mainly with ulcerative colitis, cross‐sectional evidence consistently supported the coexistence of periodontal disease and IBD ...

Tunnel Technique With Connective Tissue Graft Versus Free Gingival Graft for Multiple Gingival Recessions in the Anterior Mandible: A Randomized Clinical Trial

open access: yesJournal of Periodontal Research, EarlyView.
Both techniques were effective in treating multiple mandibular gingival recessions, resulting in a significant reduction in recession depth after 12 months. Free gingival graft showed a more predictable approach for keratinized tissue gain. In contrast, the tunnel technique was superior in healing outcomes.

Inflammation and mechanical force‐induced bone remodeling

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, EarlyView.
Abstract Periodontitis arises from imbalanced host–microbe interactions, leading to dysbiosis and destructive inflammation. The host's innate and adaptive immune responses produce pro‐inflammatory mediators that stimulate destructive events, which cause loss of alveolar bone and connective tissue attachment.

Antibiotic‐mediated immune modulation in periodontitis

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, EarlyView.
Abstract Periodontitis is a chronic inflammatory disease affecting the supporting structures of the teeth. Although initiated by dysbiotic microbial communities, its progression is largely driven by the host's uncontrolled inflammatory response. While antibiotics have conventionally been employed in periodontitis therapy for their antimicrobial ...
