Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Hydrostatic compression on polypropylene foam [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Models currently used to simulate the impact behaviour of polymeric foam at high strain rates use data from mechanical tests. Uniaxial compression is the most common mechanical test used, but the results from this test alone are insufficient to ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Experiment and simulation of thermomechanical coupled behavior of SMA under low velocity impact

open access: yesJournal of Aeronautical Materials, 2019
The thermomechanical coupled behaviour of shape memory alloy (SMA) sheet under low velocity impact loading was investigated. Based on the SMA thermomechanical constitutive model, the impact response of SMA sheet was numerically simulated in software to ...

Experimental behaviour of concrete-filled stainless steel tubular columns under impact loading

open access: yes, 2009
This paper presents the analysis and design of concrete filled stainless steel tubular column under impact load. A comprehensive test program has been carried out recently at the University of Western Sydney and University of Wollongong to investigate ...

‘The Impact of Culture on Tourists' Online Information Search Behaviour

open access: yes, 2016
This chapter looks into the concept of culture and its impacts on travellers' online information search behaviour. The study is focused on two culturally diametric countries: United Kingdom and China (Hofstede, 2001) and they have been selected as case ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...
