Analytical behaviour of FRP strengthened reinforced concrete beams under low velocity impact load incorporating rate dependant material constitutive models

open access: yes, 2014
Includes bibliographical references.Since the 1980s, the use of fibre reinforced polymer (FRP) composites in strengthening and rehabilitation of existing reinforced and pre-stressed structures has gained popularity.

Money buys an SUV, while time fosters sufficiency? The influence of working hours, income and available time on high-impact unsustainable behaviour and pro-environmental behaviour [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Recent studies have shown that psychological motivational constructs (like environmental awareness) only predict overconsumptious unsustainable behaviour with particular high environmental impact (like mobility behaviour) to a small extent, whereas ...

The ecology of young children’s behaviour and social competence : child characteristics, socio-economic factors and parenting [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Using a longitudinal, UK representative sample from the Millennium Cohort Study, the present study examined the effects of socio-economic factors on mother- and teacher-rated behaviour, and the unique and cumulative contribution of both risk and ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Assessing your impact on behaviour change to improve eye health

open access: yesCommunity Eye Health Journal, 2015
It is important that you document all your activities and that you monitor and evaluate your interventions in the community.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Sustainable community development - impact of residents' behaviour on total sustainability of a sustainable community

open access: yes, 2013
Planners and designers of sustainable communities claim they design them according to sustainability principles, but residents must also embrace those principles in their private lives in order to reduce the community's ecological footprint.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...
