Coupled phenomena in soil: Examples of insights gained from multi-physics particle-scale simulations [PDF]
Arguably the most important idea in modern soil mechanics is the principle of effective stress put forward by Karl Terzaghi just over a century ago in 1923.

Suppression Mechanism of Electron Emission under Fast Cluster Impact on Solids [PDF]
We have specified the mechanism of suppressed electron emission from surfaces bombarded by fast cluster ions. From key information obtained from a comparison of the electron emissions for insulator KCl and conductor graphite, we concluded that the suppression is predominantly caused by the disturbance of the electron transport by the electric potential

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Analysis on inflowing of the injecting Water in faulted formation
As to low permeability reservoir, faults and fractures have a significant impact on effect of water injection and may lead up to the lower efficiency of oil displacement, which will bring about low efficiency of injecting water, and the intended purpose ...

Impact of an asteroid or comet in the ocean and extinction of terrestrial life [PDF]
Finite difference calculations describing the impact mechanics associated with a 10 to 30 km diameter silicate or water object impacting a 5 km deep ocean overlying a silicate solid planet demonstrate that from 12 to 15% of the bolide energy resides in ...

The human gut microbiome across the life course
Despite significant individual variation and continuous change throughout life, the human gut microbiome follows some life stage‐specific trends. This article provides a brief overview of how gut microbiome composition shifts across different phases of life. Created in BioRender. Özkurt, E. (2026) https://BioRender.com/8q4nrnc.
