Environmental Impact Assessment of Photovoltaic Parks Through a RIAM-Based Environmental Indicator Matrix

open access: yesEnergies
Photovoltaic parks support climate change mitigation by generating low-emission electricity. However, their environmental impacts strongly depend on site features and proximity to environmentally sensitive areas.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Proximity Lens on Structural Collaborations: A Method for Impact Assessment

open access: yes
This resource provides a description of ‘proximities’ in impact assessment, building on Boschma (2005) and Knoben & Oerlemans (2006). Proximity dimensions provide a lens to identify and highlight the conditions that enable successful cooperation and ...

Short Communication - Aquatic Oil Pollution Impact Indicators

open access: yesJournal of Applied Sciences and Environmental Management, 2005
Aquatic oil pollution impact indicators such as oil-grease, low dissolved oxygen concentration, increased biochemical oxygen demand, increased water temperature and acidity of the water are associated with aquatic habitat degradation, reduced ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Can TERM determine the environmental impact of transport? - Reflections on a core set of transport indicators [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
This paper systematically reviews two questions central for environmental im-pact assessment: What are the relevant environmental impacts of transport? And, are they improving, i.e. what is their overall assessment?

STUDY ON THE IMPACT OF OIL EXTRACTION ON WATERS FROM TICLENI AREA, GORJ COUNTY [PDF]

open access: yesAnalele Universităţii Constantin Brâncuşi din Târgu Jiu : Seria Economie, 2017
Surface and groundwater pollution can be direct and indirect. In the extraction activity, oil and sewage are potential sources of groundwater pollution in the area.

Factors Influencing Research Performance in Higher Education: An Empirical Investigation

open access: yesForesight and STI Governance, 2012
Universities play an increasingly significant role in producing new knowledge. The relationship between research inputs (grants, infrastructure spending, training of researchers) and research outputs (number of publications, citation, impact) emerges ...

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.
