Impact-induced Contamination of Ganymede’s Deep Ice Shell

open access: yesThe Planetary Science Journal
Juno flew by Ganymede in 2021 June and measured the microwave brightness temperatures of the ice shell at six frequencies from 0.6–22 GHz. Based on the increasing brightness temperature with wavelength, S. Brown et al.

Hypervelocity impact phenomena of LPSO-magnesium alloys

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2018
Hypervelocity impact phenomena of long period stacking ordered type magnesium alloys (LPSO-Mg) plates were examined at the impact velocities of 4 km/s and 6 km/s.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

The Distribution of Impactor Core Material During Large Impacts on Earth-like Planets

open access: yesThe Planetary Science Journal
Large impacts onto young rocky planets may transform their compositions, creating highly reducing conditions at their surfaces and reintroducing highly siderophile metals to their mantles.

Two Seismic Events from InSight Confirmed as New Impacts on Mars

open access: yesThe Planetary Science Journal, 2023
We report confirmed impact sources for two seismic events on Mars detected by the NASA InSight mission. These events have been positively associated with fresh impact craters identified from orbital images, which match predicted locations and sizes to ...

Modulation of Homer1 EVH1 domain internal dynamics by putative autism‐associated mutations

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The putative autism‐associated M65I and S97L variants of the EVH1 domain of the postsynaptic scaffold protein Homer1 do not exhibit substantial changes in their overall structure or partner binding. Both of them, but especially the M65I variant, show altered internal dynamics relative to the wild‐type domain on the μs‐ms timescale, indicated by the ...

Telescope-to-Fireball Characterization of Earth Impactor 2022 WJ1

open access: yesThe Planetary Science Journal
Comparing how an asteroid appears in space to its ablation behavior during atmospheric passage and finally to the properties of associated meteorites represents the ultimate probe of small near-Earth objects.

Modeling the Formation of Selk Impact Crater on Titan: Implications for Dragonfly

open access: yesThe Planetary Science Journal, 2023
Selk crater is an ∼80 km diameter impact crater on the Saturnian icy satellite Titan. Melt pools associated with impact craters like Selk provide environments where liquid water and organics can mix and produce biomolecules like amino acids. It is partly

An unexpected alternative viologen electron mediator site in tungsten‐containing formate dehydrogenase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
An unexpected alternative interaction site for ethyl viologen was identified in formate dehydrogenase 1 from Methylorubrum extorquens. Combined mutagenesis, kinetic analysis, and docking revealed that aromatic residues near an iron–sulfur cluster enable flavin mononucleotide‐independent electron transfer, offering a framework for engineering improved ...

Impact Momentum Transfer—Insights from Numerical Simulation of Impacts on Large Boulders of Asteroids

open access: yesThe Planetary Science Journal
Asteroids pose potential hazards to Earth. The recent NASA Double Asteroid Redirection Test mission successfully demonstrated the change of an asteroid’s orbit by a kinetic impactor.
