Organoids in pediatric cancer research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Identification of Microseismic Signals in Coal Mine Rockbursts Based on Hybrid Feature Selection and a Transformer

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Deep learning algorithms are pivotal in the identification and classification of microseismic signals in mines subjected to impact pressure. However, conventional machine learning techniques often struggle to balance interpretability, computational ...

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Scaling Behavior of Sloshing Impact Pressures Based on Event Distribution and Regime Classification

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
Sloshing in partially filled tanks generates significant impact pressures that threaten the structural integrity of LNG cargo containment systems, and accurate scaling of these impacts remains a critical issue.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Damage on a Solid–Liquid Interface Induced by the Dynamical Behavior of Injected Gas Bubbles in Flowing Mercury

open access: yesFluids
Microbubbles have been applied in various fields. In the mercury targets of spallation neutron sources, where cavitation damage is a crucial issue for life estimation, microbubbles are injected into the mercury to absorb the thermal expansion of the ...
