Diabetes in Patients With Pancreatic Neuroendocrine Neoplasms

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology, 2020
ObjectiveDiabetes mellitus (DM) is probably a risk factor for pancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasms (PNENs). However, the prevalence of DM in PNEN patients remains inconclusive.

A common variant in the Melatonin Receptor 1B gene (MTNR1B) is associated with increased risk of impaired fasting glucose (IFG) in obese youth

open access: yesObesity, 2014
To explore the role of MTNR1B rs10830963 and G6PC2 rs560887 variants in the pathogenesis of impaired fasting glucose (IFG) in obese adolescents.

A Human‐Based Skin‐Lymphoreticular Model‐on‐Chip to Emulate Inflammatory Skin Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A human‐based lymphoreticular (LR) model was developed through guided self‐assembly and integrated in a skin‐lymphoreticular co‐culture in a microfluidic organ‐on‐chip to mimic interactions between skin and its draining lymph nodes. The human‐based skin‐lymphoreticular model resembles a minimally functional unit that allows to study interactions ...

Platelet Lysate–Enriched Human Induced Pluripotent Stem Cell–Derived Chondrocyte Sheets for Bone Defect Repair via Endochondral Ossification

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Human iPSC‐derived hypertrophic chondrocyte sheet promotes bone regeneration. Abstract Bone defects are a major clinical challenge, primarily owing to the limited self‐healing capacity of bones and the high risk of complications associated with conventional treatment strategies.

A 3D Astrocyte Microenvironment Model Enables Rapid Ca2+‐Resolved Analysis and Therapeutic Modulation of Oxidative Neuroinflammation

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This work presents ARC‐3D, a soft 3D model that recreates how brain support cells, called astrocytes, react to oxidative stress. The system visualizes rapid calcium changes and inflammatory signals, and shows how the drug KDS12025 can protect cells from damage. ARC‐3D offers a simple, reliable way to study early drivers of brain inflammation.

Dual‐Functional Polyphosphoesters for Gene Delivery: Synergistic Effects of Guanidinium and Hydrophobic Side Chains in Degradable Polymers

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents guanidinium‐ and indole‐functionalized polyphosphoesters as degradable, non‐viral gene delivery vectors. Through precise tuning of charge density and hydrophobicity, these polymers form stable polyplexes with low toxicity. Remarkably, minor structural changes yield up to 200‐fold differences in transfection efficiency, highlighting ...

Impaired fasting glucose prevalence in two nationwide cohorts of obese children and adolescents

open access: yesInternational Journal of Obesity, 2013
Objective:Impaired fasting glucose (IFG), a pre-stage to type 2 diabetes in adults, is also present in obese children. A large variation of the occurrence has been recorded, but the true prevalence is unknown due to lack of larger representative cohort ...
