Impaired glucose tolerance and impaired fasting glucose.
American family physician, 2004Impaired glucose tolerance and impaired fasting glucose form an intermediate stage in the natural history of diabetes mellitus. From 10 to 15 percent of adults in the United States have one of these conditions. Impaired glucose tolerance is defined as two-hour glucose levels of 140 to 199 mg per dL (7.8 to 11.0 mmol) on the 75-g oral glucose tolerance ...

Impaired glucose tolerance in hepatic schistosomiasis
Transactions of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 1974Abstract Oral and intravenous glucose tolerance tests were carried out on patients with Schistosoma mansoni infection with hepatic enlargement. Impaired glucose tolerance was discovered by the oral and intravenous tests. The impaired glucose tolerance was not related to the severity of liver damage as revealed by liver function tests.

Impaired Glucose Tolerance in Pima Indians
Diabetic Medicine, 1996More than 50% of Pima Indians/develop NIDDM. This disorder is preceded by impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) and we tested the hypothesis that the elevated glucose levels in IGT must be due to reduced β‐cell function. We first determined the plasma glucose/plasma insulin and plasma insulin/insulin resistance relationships in individuals with NGT ...

Impaired fasting glucose and impaired glucose tolerance in urban population in India
Diabetic Medicine, 2003AbstractAims To study prevalence of impaired fasting glucose (IFG) and impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) in urban Indians and their demographic and anthropometric characteristics. Methods Data on capillary blood glucose (OGTT), anthropometric and demography details were available in 10 025 subjects (M : F 4711 : 5314) aged ≥ 20 years.

Progression of normal glucose tolerance to impaired glucose tolerance or diabetes in the elderly
Diabetes Research and Clinical Practice, 1997Factors predicting impared glucose tolerance (IGT) and diabetes (DM) were studied in a community-living population aged 70 years or over, with initial normal glucose tolerance (NGT). The baseline examinations from 1991 to 1992 included an oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT), physical examinations and questionnaires.

Impaired glucose tolerance is associated with postganglionic sudomotor impairment
Clinical Autonomic Research, 2007We compared quantitative sudomotor axon-reflex test responses in persons with normal and impaired glucose tolerance (IGT). Responses were significantly impaired in those with IGT, which may be indicative of early distal small fiber neuropathy.

Impaired baroreflex sensitivity (BRS) is associated with adverse cardiovascular outcomes. There are currently no studies on BRS changes in subjects with different glycemic statuses, including normal glucose tolerance (NGT), isolated impaired fasting glucose (IFG), impaired glucose tolerance (IGT), and newly diagnosed diabetes (NDD).

The Clinical Implications of Impaired Glucose Tolerance
Diabetic Medicine, 1996Impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) was introduced in 1979 as an intermediate category covering the grey area between unequivocal diabetes mellitus and risk free more normal glucose tolerance. The IGT group included those at high risk of subsequent development of non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) but low risk of specific diabetic ...

Treatment of impaired glucose tolerance in childhood
Nature Clinical Practice Endocrinology & Metabolism, 2008Impaired glucose tolerance is a prediabetic condition that is a major risk factor for subsequent development of type 2 diabetes mellitus. As type 2 diabetes mellitus has become common among obese adolescents, options for the management of children with impaired glucose tolerance are discussed in this Viewpoint.
