Nasal Airway Transcriptome Reflects Selected Asthma‐Associated Gene Signatures in the Lower Airways

open access: yesAllergy, EarlyView.
Seven genes and two gene modules were consistently associated with asthma in both airway compartments in ARMS and were validated in ATLANTIS. The two modules reflected IL‐13 related inflammation and mast cell activity, respectively. Nasal gene signatures provide a non‐invasive proxy for selected bronchial asthma‐associated gene signatures. ARMS, Asthma

Short Distance Impedance Pneumography

open access: yesCurrent Directions in Biomedical Engineering, 2018
Gold-standards for biosignal acquisition require body-spanning sensor positioning which is contradictory to the high integration of modern wearable medical monitors.

Impulse oscillometry in the diagnosis of obstructive ventilation disorders in pulmonary tuberculosis patients

open access: yesТуберкулез и болезни лёгких, 2019
Impulse oscillometry (IO) possesses certain advantages (being non-invasive and requiring no special breathing maneuvers) but fundamental differences from the well-known methods of external respiration function assessment make it difficult to introduce it

Pharmacological treatment with a GABA(A) receptor modulator and a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor as a mitigation strategy against aircraft noise‐induced cardiovascular and neuronal damage

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background and Purpose Noise pollution, particularly by aircraft, is a significant risk factor for cardiovascular disease. Aircraft noise activates stress response pathways in the brain, via the amygdala, the sympathetic nervous system and the hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal axis.

Toll‐like receptor 4 mediates lipopolysaccharide‐induced emesis

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Background and Purpose Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) induces inflammation and sepsis through Toll‐like receptor 4 (TLR4) activation. Common laboratory animals do not exhibit emesis, but administration of LPS in piglets, cats, and dogs induces emesis via peripheral mechanisms.

arterioscope.sim: Enabling Simulations of Blood Flow and Its Impact on Bioimpedance Signals

open access: yesBioengineering
Objectives: Early detection of cardiovascular diseases and their pre-existing conditions, arteriosclerosis and atherosclerosis, is crucial to increasing a patient’s chance of survival. While imaging technologies and invasive procedures provide a reliable

Effects of Calorie Restriction With and Without Strength, Endurance or Mixed Training on Fat‐Free and Skeletal Muscle Mass in Overweight or Obese Individuals—A Systematic Review With Pairwise Meta‐Analysis and Network Meta‐Analysis of Randomized Controlled Studies

open access: yesDiabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aims Calorie restriction (CR) reduces both fat mass and fat‐free mass (FFM), particularly skeletal muscle mass (SMM), which is essential for cardiometabolic health and preventing frailty. This study compares CR alone versus CR plus exercise (EX) on FFM and SMM in overweight/obese patients and examines the effects of different training modes ...

Correlation of Air Displacement Plethysmography with Alternative Body Fat Measurement Techniques in Men and Women [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
International Journal of Exercise Science 5(4) : 367-378, 2012. Obesity has reached epidemic proportions with serious health consequences. Techniques used to measure body fat (BF) yield variable BF estimates, and this variability may lead to ...
