High-frequency homogenization in periodic media with imperfect interfaces [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the Royal Society A: Mathematical, Physical and Engineering Sciences, 2020
In this work, the concept of high-frequency homogenization is extended to the case of one-dimensional periodic media with imperfect interfaces of the spring-mass type. In other words, when considering the propagation of elastic waves in such media, displacement and stress discontinuities are allowed across the borders of the periodic cell.

Novel connections and physical implications of thermal metamaterials with imperfect interfaces [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
Thermal metamaterials are of great importance in advanced energy control and management. Previous studies mainly focused on interfaces with perfect bonding conditions.

Dynamic Analysis of Multilayered Piezoelectric Quasicrystal Three-Dimensional Sector Plates with Imperfect Interfaces

open access: yesCrystals, 2023
Piezoelectric quasicrystals have attracted extensive attention due to their unique physical and mechanical properties. This paper studies the dynamic response of multilayered two-dimensional decagonal piezoelectric quasicrystal sector plates with ...

Perfect crystals grown from imperfect interfaces. [PDF]

open access: yesSci Rep, 2013
The fabrication of advanced devices increasingly requires materials with different properties to be combined in the form of monolithic heterostructures. In practice this means growing epitaxial semiconductor layers on substrates often greatly differing in lattice parameters and thermal expansion coefficients.

Numerical implementation of imperfect interfaces [PDF]

open access: yesComputational Materials Science, 2007
One approach to characterizing interfacial stiffness is to introduce imperfect interfaces that allow displacement discontinuities whose magnitudes depend on interfacial traction and on properties of the interface or interphase region. This work implemented such imperfect interfaces into both finite element analysis and the material point method.

Magnetoelectric effects in multiferroic laminated plates with imperfect interfaces

open access: yesTheoretical and Applied Mechanics Letters, 2017
Two-dimensional (2D) equations for multiferroic (MF) laminated plates with imperfect interfaces are established in this paper. The interface between two adjacent sublayers, which are not perfectly bonded together, is modeled as a general spring-type ...

On the effective property of a micro-cracked and a microscopically curved interface between dissimilar materials

open access: yesForces in Mechanics, 2022
Two different types of imperfect interfaces between dissimilar elastic materials under antiplane deformations are studied using micromechanics concepts.

Composites with imperfect interface [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the Royal Society of London. Series A: Mathematical, Physical and Engineering Sciences, 1996
The authors present a new variational principle and bounds to describe the effective conductivity tensor for anisotropic two-phase heat conducting composites with interfacial surface resistance between phases. New upper bounds are given in terms of the two-correlation functions, component volume fractions, and the moment of inertia tensor for the ...

Influence of boundary conditions on the response of multilayered plates with cohesive interfaces and delaminations using a homogenized approach [PDF]

open access: yesFracture and Structural Integrity, 2014
Stress and displacement fields in multilayered composites with interfacial imperfections, such as imperfect bonding of the layers or delaminations, or where the plies are separated by thin interlayers allowing relative motion, have large variations in ...
