The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

Approximating the Randomized Hitting Time Distribution of a Non-stationary Gamma Process [PDF]

open access: yes
The non-stationary gamma process is a non-decreasing stochastic process with independent increments. By this monotonic behavior this stochastic process serves as a natural candidate for modelling time-dependent phenomena such as degradation. In condition-

Joint optimization of imperfect condition‐based maintenance and lot sizing via an availability‐cost hybrid factor

open access: yesEngineering Reports, 2022
This article develops a joint model of condition‐based maintenance (CBM) and economic production quantity (EPQ) for a single‐unit manufacturing system.

Barriers to energy efficiency: evidence from selected sectors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
To combat climate change, it is essential to reduce the use of fossil fuels and minimise greenhouse gas emissions. To help to achieve that objective, energy must be used efficiently.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Integrated condition‐based maintenance modelling and optimisation for offshore wind turbines

open access: yesWind Energy, 2021
Maintenance is essential in keeping wind energy assets operating efficiently. With the development of advanced condition monitoring, diagnostics and prognostics, condition‐based maintenance has attracted much attention in the offshore wind industry in ...

Evolutionary dynamics of adult stem cells: Comparison of random and immortal strand segregation mechanisms

open access: yes, 2004
This paper develops a point-mutation model describing the evolutionary dynamics of a population of adult stem cells. Such a model may prove useful for quantitative studies of tissue aging and the emergence of cancer.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Modelling and Simulation for Efficiency Factor Evaluation of Maintenance Strategies in a Computer System

open access: yesEAI Endorsed Transactions on Energy Web, 2020
An efficient maintenance allows extension of operating life of system, thus contributing to increase system performance. Computer systems like other systems must operate without interruption and applied strategies of maintenance must be efficiency. This

Interaction of the oncoprotein transcription factor MYC with its chromatin cofactor WDR5 is essential for tumor maintenance. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The oncoprotein transcription factor MYC is overexpressed in the majority of cancers. Key to its oncogenic activity is the ability of MYC to regulate gene expression patterns that drive and maintain the malignant state. MYC is also considered a validated
