Clinical, Histologic, and Serological Predictors of Renal Function Loss in Lupus Nephritis

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Kidney survival is the ultimate goal in lupus nephritis (LN) management, but long‐term predictors remain inadequately studied, requiring long‐term follow‐up. This study aimed to identify baseline and early longitudinal predictors of kidney survival in the Accelerating Medicines Partnership LN longitudinal cohort.

Material Factors in Relation to Development Time in Liquid-Penetrant Inspection. Part 1. Material Factors

open access: yesArchives of Metallurgy and Materials, 2016
In technical publications and European Standards the development time (i.e. time of getting out of penetrant from a discontinuity to the material surface) in penetration testing is specified within the range of 10-30 minutes.

Death Prevents Our Lives From Being Meaningful

open access: yesTheoLogica, 2022
This article seeks to show that death prevents one’s life from being meaningful on balance. Proponents of what has come to be known as the ‘imperfection thesis’ about life’s meaning claim that it is sufficient for one’s life to be meaningful that one ...

Discordance Between Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Disease Activity Index Domain Weights and Their Association With Organ Damage Accrual

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Studies of damage accrual in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) show associations with disease activity measured by the SLE Disease Activity Index 2000 (SLEDAI‐2K), but these associations are imperfect. SLEDAI scores are powerfully influenced by weightings (1–8) assigned to each domain.

Optimization of imperfection-insensitive continuous tow sheared rocket launch structures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
Geometric imperfection sensitivity is the largest influencing factor that limits the design of thin-walled monocoque cylinders. Current generation cylindrical architectures, such as those found in rocket launch vehicles, rely on the use of sandwich or ...

Planar Solid‐State Nanopores Toward Scalable Nanofluidic Integration Based on CMOS Technology

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We present a scalable silicon‐based fabrication strategy for planar solid‐state nanopores to enable their integration with complex nanofluidic systems. Prototype devices demonstrate normal voltage‐current characteristics, good noise performance, and appreciable streaming currents. Our CMOS‐compatible fabrication process offers precise geometric control

Electrochemical Evaluation of Compressed Selective Laser Melted AlSi7Mg and AlSi10Mg Alloys in Chloride Environment

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The corrosion performance of AlSi7Mg and AlSi10Mg alloys produced through selective laser melting (SLM) was examined under compressive stress in a chloride environment. Electrochemical analyses, including open‐circuit potential (OCP), potentiodynamic polarization (CPP), and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), were complemented by scanning ...

Virtual testing of post-buckling behaviour of metallic stiffened panel [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The aim of the project presented in this thesis is to demonstrate a modelling method for predicting the variability in the ultimate load of stiffened panel under axial compression due to manufacturing variability.

Sensitivity analysis of the effect of initial imperfections on the (i) ultimate load and (ii) fatigue behaviour of steel plate girders

open access: yesJournal of Civil Engineering and Management, 2005
The study is divided into two parts: (i) in the first one, the plate girder (Fig 1) is considered to be exposed to quasi‐constant loading (ie to loads which are either constant or repeated in a very small number of cycles), while (ii) in the other one,
