Insights into the renal pathophysiology in Hermansky‐Pudlak syndrome‐1 from urinary extracellular vesicle proteomics and a new mouse model

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hermansky‐Pudlak syndrome type 1 (HPS‐1) is a rare, autosomal recessive disorder with poorly understood renal involvement. Urinary extracellular vesicle (uEV) proteomics and a novel Hps1 mouse model reveal mitochondrial abnormalities and lipid accumulation in HPS‐1 kidney proximal tubule cells. Serum ApoA1 correlates with kidney function in our patient

Clinical Characteristics and Outcomes Among Individuals With Spinal Implant Infections: A Descriptive Study. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Little is known about the clinical presentation and outcomes associated with spinal implant infections. Here, we describe a single center's experience in a retrospective cohort of 109 individuals with spinal implant infections, including clinical ...

Approximate Expressions to the Reactive Near-Field Losses of Body-Implanted Antennas [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
Implantable bioelectronics often relies on an RF-wireless link for communication and/or remote powering. Propagation through biological media is very lossy, and previous work has shown that these losses can be separated into three parts: the losses incurred by the propagating fields, the reflections at media interfaces, and the coupling of the reactive

Characterization of fungal carbonyl sulfide hydrolase belonging to clade D β‐carbonic anhydrase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Here, we performed a functional analysis of the fungal enzymes belonging to clade D of the β‐class carbonic anhydrase family (β‐D‐CA). The β‐D‐CAs in the basidiomycete Gloeophyllum trabeum and the ascomycete Trichoderma harzianum showed very low activity in the hydration of CO2 but exhibited high activity in the hydrolysis of carbonyl sulfide (COS ...

Variations in vertical mucosal thickness at edentulous ridge according to site and gender measured by cone-beam computed tomography

open access: yesInternational Journal of Implant Dentistry, 2021
Background The vertical thickness of the peri-implant mucosa is associated with the amount of post treatment marginal bone loss. However, the variations in mucosal thickness at the different edentulous sites have been sparsely documented.

Ability of modal analysis to detect osseointegration of implants in transfemoral amputees : a physical model study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Owing to the successful use of non-invasive vibration analysis to monitor the progression of dental implant healing and stabilization, it is now being considered as a method to monitor femoral implants in transfemoral amputees.

A histidine‐rich extension of the mitochondrial F0 subunit ATP6 from the ice worm Mesenchytraeus solifugus increases ATP synthase activity in bacteria

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The glacier ice worm Mesenchytraeus solifugus survives year‐round at 0 °C. Its ATP6 subunit, which forms a regulatory component of the proton pore in mitochondrial ATP synthase, has a carboxy‐terminal extension not found in any other organism examined to date. Here, we show that fusion of this extension to the homologous AtpB protein in E. coli results

PromBERA: A preoperative eABR: An update

open access: yesCurrent Directions in Biomedical Engineering, 2018
Prior to cochlear implantation, audiological tests are performed to determine candidacy in subjects with a hearing loss. This is usually done by measuring the acoustic auditory brainstem response (ABR).

Ablation of LRP6 in alpha‐smooth muscle actin‐expressing cells abrogates lung inflammation and fibrosis upon bleomycin‐induced lung injury

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Low‐density lipoprotein receptor‐related protein 6 (LRP6) is a key receptor for the Wnt antagonist Dickkopf1 (DKK1). DKK1 protein expression is induced in a bleomycin (BLM)‐induced lung injury model. We show that DKK1 induces proinflammatory and profibrotic genes in lung fibroblasts.

Use of long implants with distal anchorage in the skull base for treatment of extreme maxillary atrophy : the remote bone anchorage concept [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The objectives of this study are to present a new concept of the bone anchorage using long implants in remote bone sites and to discuss four cases treated with this method.
