Management of peri‐implant mucositis and peri‐implantitis [PDF]

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, 2014
AbstractPeri‐implant diseases are defined as inflammatory lesions of the surrounding peri‐implant tissues and include peri‐implant mucositis (an inflammatory lesion limited to the surrounding mucosa of an implant) and peri‐implantitis (an inflammatory lesion of the mucosa that affects the supporting bone with resulting loss of osseointegration).

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Single-cell transcriptome analysis reveals the clinical implications of myeloid-derived suppressor cells in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma

open access: yesPathology and Oncology Research, 2023
Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSC) is the most common malignant tumor that arises in the epithelium of the head and neck regions. Myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) are one of the tumor-infiltrating immune cell populations, which play a ...

BAHA implant: Implantation technique and complications

open access: yesEuropean Annals of Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Diseases, 2014
BAHA implants have been shown to be effective in certain forms of conductive hearing loss, but the presence of the titanium abutment is responsible for sometimes severe skin reactions. The objective of this study was to compare two operative techniques: skin flap, and full-thickness skin graft.Between January 2004 and January 2011, 72 patients were ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Biomechanical Behavior of Tooth-Implant Supported Prostheses With Different Implant Connections [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Purpose: Biomechanical behavior of tooth-implant-supported prostheses (TISPs) with external and internal implants was compared. Materials and methods: Two 3-D models of TISP were designed by varying the implant: external (Model EH) and internal ...

Factors influencing the sinus membrane thickness in edentulous regions: a cone-beam computed tomography study

open access: yesInternational Journal of Implant Dentistry, 2021
Background During implant treatment in the maxillary molar area, maxillary sinus floor augmentation is often performed to ameliorate the reduced alveolar bone height attributable to bone remodeling and pneumatization-induced expansion of the maxillary ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Effect of Crown to Implant Ratio and Implant Dimensions on Periimplant Stress of Splinted Implant-Supported Crowns: A Finite Element Analysis

open access: yes, 2013
Purpose: To assess the influence of different crown-implant (C/I) ratios and implant dimensions on periimplant stress in the partially edentulous posterior mandible by 3-dimensional finite element analysis (FEA).Materials and Methods: Two implants were ...
