Implantable Sensors for Heart Failure [PDF]

open access: yesCirculation: Arrhythmia and Electrophysiology, 2010
Heart failure (HF) affects more than 5 million Americans, and acute decompensated heart failure (ADHF) has emerged as the leading cause of hospitalization among people over the age of 65 years.1 Importantly, HF is a leading public health concern, and hospitalization expenses related to management of ADHF impose a substantial financial burden on the ...

Phosphoinositides and inositol phosphates as molecular glues

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol phosphates (IPs) and phosphoinositides (PIPs) regulate diverse eukaryotic processes. Beyond recruiting signaling proteins or acting as structural cofactors, recent studies suggest they mediate protein–protein interactions as natural molecular glues.

Precaution, governance and the failure of medical implants: the ASR(TM) hip in the UK

open access: yes, 2014
Hip implants have provided life-changing treatment, reducing pain and improving the mobility and independence of patients. Success has encouraged manufacturers to innovate and amend designs, engendering patient hopes in these devices.

Outcomes of implant-based oral rehabilitation in head and neck oncology patients—a retrospective evaluation of a large, single regional service cohort

open access: yesInternational Journal of Implant Dentistry, 2019
Background The study reports on implant survival outcomes in head and neck cancer patients who received implant-based oral rehabilitation in a regional service centre. Methods A retrospective analysis of implant survival outcomes in patients treated in a

The overview of antimicrobial peptide‐coated implants against oral bacterial infections

open access: yesAggregate, 2023
Dental implants are the most common therapeutic approach for resolving tooth loss and damage. Despite technical advances in treatment, implant failure rates can be as high as 23% with the major cause of peri‐implantitis: a multi‐species bacterial ...

Three phosphatase families form a community: The phosphohydrolases that act upon inositol pyrophosphates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol pyrophosphates are energy‐rich signaling molecules that perform critical functions in cells. Three different families of phosphatases hydrolyze the β phosphate of the inositol pyrophosphate molecules: two have narrow specificities and one is promiscuous.

Risk Factors for Early Implant Failure and Selection of Bone Grafting Materials for Various Bone Augmentation Procedures: A Narrative Review

open access: yesBioengineering
Implant therapy is now an established treatment with high long-term success and survival rates. However, early implant failure, which occurs within one year of superstructure placement, occurs at a higher rate than late failure, which is represented by ...

Recurrent implantation failure: definition [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Assisted Reproduction and Genetics, 2007
An attempt to define recurrent implantation failure.Literature review.Numerous definitions of recurrent implantation failure exist. The complexity and redundancy of the process of implantation makes a single definition difficult to determine. Each center must establish a definition of recurrent implantation failure based upon the data from that center ...

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.
