Stability Analysis of the Matrix-Free Linearly Implicit Euler Method
2013Implicit time stepping methods are useful for the simulation of large scale PDE systems because they avoid the time step limitations imposed by explicit stability conditions. To alleviate the challenges posed by computational and memory constraints, many applications solve the resulting linear systems by iterative methods where the Jacobian-vector ...

On the application of the implicit “backward Euler” method for solving the diffusion equation
Atmospheric Environment (1967), 1989Abstract The present paper deals with numerical effects occurring in the application of the implicit (“backward Euler”) method to solve the diffusion equation in the case of a point source (i.e. singular initial data). The numerical over-estimation of the concentration at the source level as well as conditions for an over- or under-estimation of the ...

Generalized implicit Euler method for hyperbolic functional differential equations
Mathematische Nachrichten, 2010AbstractNonlinear hyperbolic functional differential equations with initial boundary conditions are considered. Theorems on the convergence of difference schemes and error estimates of approximate solutions are presented. The proof of the stability of the difference functional problem is based on a comparison technique.

Solution of the Unsteady Euler Equations Using an Implicit Dual-Time Method
AIAA Journal, 1998An unfactored implicit time-marching method for the solution of the unsteady two-dimensional Euler equations on deforming grids is described. The present work is placed into a multiblock framework and e ts into the development of a generally applicable parallel multiblock e ow solver. The convective terms are discretized using an upwind total variation

Beyond Euler's Method: Implicit Finite Differences in an Introductory ODE Course
PRIMUS, 2011A typical introductory course in ordinary differential equations (ODEs) exposes students to exact solution methods. However, many differential equations must be approximated with numerical methods. Textbooks commonly include explicit methods such as Euler's and Improved Euler's.
