A light‐triggered Time‐Resolved X‐ray Solution Scattering (TR‐XSS) workflow with application to protein conformational dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐resolved X‐ray solution scattering captures how proteins change shape in real time under near‐native conditions. This article presents a practical workflow for light‐triggered TR‐XSS experiments, from data collection to structural refinement. Using a calcium‐transporting membrane protein as an example, the approach can be broadly applied to study ...

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

Benchmarking student evaluations of a postgraduate unit using importance-performance analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
In the competitive tertiary education market, a consumer orientation is essential. Management must assess the perceptions of prospective students and monitor the (dis)satisfaction levels of current customers.

Refinement of amino‐acid conformation vs. difference density maps in time‐resolved serial femtosecond crystallography data analysis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The dFoCC pipeline starts with observed DED and resting‐state coordinates, which are then used to generate a library of triggered states. Correlation analysis of the calculated DED features of each candidate vs observed DED permits quantitative evaluation of candidate structural quality.

AN ENHANCED SHRINKAGE FUNCTION FOR DENOISING ECONOMIC TIME SERIES DATA USING WAVELET ANALYSIS

open access: yesScience Journal of University of Zakho
In the realm of economic (financial) time series analysis, accurate prediction holds paramount importance. However, these data often suffer from the presence of noise, particularly in highly random and non-stationary datasets like stock market data ...

One size does not fit all: An in vitro evaluation of the effects of bezafibrate and medroxyprogesterone acetate on human SH‐SY5Y and U‐87 MG cancer cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Drugs previously repurposed to target blood cancers reduced neuroblastoma and glioblastoma cell growth and viability. However, their levels of anticancer activity were different and their clinical application may be problematic due to side effects at effective doses.

Versatile vector tools for efficient protein screening across multiple expression systems

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
A unified vector toolkit enables rapid protein expression screening across E. coli, insect, and mammalian cells. A single primer pair amplifies the target gene, which is inserted into any vector via a standardized interface. This streamlined workflow eliminates repeated cloning steps, accelerating the identification of optimal expression conditions for

The development of a confidence interval-based importance-performance analysis by considering variability in analyzing service quality [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
[[abstract]]The traditional importance-performance analysis (IPA) uses the mean ratings of importance and performance to construct a two-dimensional grid by identifying improvement opportunities and guiding strategic planning efforts. The point estimates

Characteristics of a series of high speed hard chine planing hulls - part 1: performance in calm water

open access: yes, 2010
A new series of high speed hard chine planing hulls was designed to study their performance in both calm water and waves. This study was undertaken to determine the influence of hull design parameters such as length-displacement ratio, static trim angle ...

Yeast Gcn2 retains activity following humanization of its auto‐phosphorylation region

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Using Saccharomyces cerevisiae as a model to study Gcn2 activation and regulation is limited by the lack of antibodies detecting phosphorylated Gcn2. To overcome this, we engineered Gcn2‐HsC, a yeast Gcn2 variant recognizable by commercial anti‐human phospho‐GCN2 antibodies.
