Effect of vaccination against gnrh with improvac®, on performance parameters and body composition under field

2011
The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of vaccination against GnRH on performance traits as well as body composition of pigs under commercial farming conditions. A total of 592 cross-bred pigs (male, and gilts) (112 castrated males, CM); 168 males to be vaccinated with Improvac, IM); and 312 females, F) included into the trial.

The effects of vaccination against gonadotropin releasing factor (GnRF) with Improvac® (Pfizer Animal Health) were compared with surgical castration in fattening pigs.A total of 205 pigs were surgically castrated (group K) and 191 were vaccinated twice (group V) using the boar taint vaccine (Improvac®; 2ml s.c.).

A gonadotropin-releasing factor vaccine (Improvac) and porcine somatotropin have synergistic and additive effects on growth performance in group-housed boars and gilts.

Journal of animal science, 2004
Two hundred and twenty-four pigs (112 boars, 112 gilts) housed in pens of seven pigs per pen were used in a 2 x 2 x 2 factorial design, with the factors of vaccination with a gonadotropin-releasing factor (GnRF) vaccine (Improvac; 0 or 2 mL at 13 and 17 wk of age), porcine somatotropin (pST; 0 or 5 mg/d from 17 wk of age), and gender. Pigs were weighed

Impact of raising Improvac®-vaccinated boars on growth, carcass quality and meat quality compared to physical castrates under fi eld conditions

2010
Introduction Boar taint is related to sexual maturity and male hormones and is usually controlled by surgical castration. With growing focus on animal welfare, surgical castration without anesthesia has become controversial. Alternative approaches include immunization against gonadotropin releasing factor (GnRF)1, which disrupts the hypothalamic ...
