The Performance of OFDM with Blanking Nonlinearity in Impulsive and Gaussian Noise

open access: yesJournal of Engineering and Sustainable Development, 2007
The aim of this paper is to investigate the effect of impulsive noise on the performance of the OFDM (orthogonal frequency division Multiplexing) system.

Adaptive Kalman Filter-Based Impulsive Noise Cancellation for Broadband Active Noise Control in Sensitive Environments

open access: yesAcoustics
Impulsive noise poses a significant challenge to broadband feedforward active noise control (ANC) systems, particularly in sensitive environments such as infant incubators.

Speech Denoising Using Transform Domains in the Presence of Impulsive and Gaussian Noises

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2017
The speech denoising problem in the presence of mixed impulsive and Gaussian noises is investigated by exploiting transform domains. To that end, the proposed noise suppression scheme is a cascaded form consisting of an impulsive noise suppression module

Impulsive noise pollution in the Northeast Atlantic: Reported activity during 2015-2017.

open access: yesMarine Pollution Bulletin, 2020
Underwater noise pollution from impulsive sources (e.g. explosions, seismic airguns, percussive pile driving) can affect marine fauna through mortality, physical injury, auditory damage, physiological stress, acoustic masking, and behavioural responses ...

Epilepsy syndromes classification

open access: yesEpilepsia Open, EarlyView.
Abstract Epilepsy syndromes are distinct electroclinical entities which have been recently defined by the International League Against Epilepsy Nosology and Definitions Task Force. Each syndrome is associated with “a characteristic cluster of clinical and EEG features, often supported by specific etiologic findings”.

Direction of arrival estimation under Class A modelled noise in shallow water using variational Bayesian inference method

open access: yesIET Radar, Sonar & Navigation, 2022
The shallow water noise shows obvious impulsive property, which greatly degrades the direction of arrival (DOA) performance due to the conventional design concept based on the Gaussian assumption.

An SSI‐Informed Design for Tuned Mass Dampers With Small‐to‐Large Mass Ratios

open access: yesEarthquake Engineering &Structural Dynamics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Tuned Mass Dampers (TMDs) are used to mitigate structural vibrations induced by seismic or wind excitation, by tuning the device to the system's dominant resonant frequencies. However, the TMD effectiveness can be undermined by soil‐structure interaction, which can lead to elongation of the vibration periods and to combined translational ...

Dynamic Peak Threshold Estimation Method for Noise Mitigation in Hybrid PLC/VLC Systems

open access: yesIEEE Access
Most communication systems suffer from signal distortions as a result of noise interference. These distortions have multiple effects on communication channels, including higher bit error rate (BER), reduced signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), and restricted ...

Cyclostationarity-based DOA estimation algorithms for coherent signals in impulsive noise environments

open access: yesEURASIP Journal on Wireless Communications and Networking, 2019
Estimating direction of arrival (DOA) is important in a variety of practical applications. Conventional cyclostationarity-based coherent DOA estimation algorithms are not robust to non-Gaussian α-stable impulsive noise.

Unsteady Flow Behavior and Radial Force Analysis of a Side Channel Pump Under Different Blade Tip Cutting Angles Using Computational Fluid Dynamics

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
The Radial Force (RF) distribution under different cutting angles is presented in Figure 1. Generally, the distribution of RF displays divergence across different flow conditions. The pattern of force distribution reveals a total of 24 peaks, which corresponds to the number of blades of the impeller of the SCP.
