Exploiting Two‐Photon Lithography, Deposition, and Processing to Realize Complex 3D Magnetic Nanostructures

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Two‐photon lithography (TPL) enables 3D magnetic nanostructures with unmatched freedom in geometry and material choice. Advances in voxel control, deposition, and functionalization open pathways to artificial spin ices, racetracks, microrobots, and a number of additional technological applications.

Impact of nitrogen seeding on L–H transitions and their role for detachment in ASDEX Upgrade

open access: yesNuclear Fusion
The required heating power, $P_{\mathrm{LH}}$ , to access the high confinement regime (H-mode) in nitrogen seeded deuterium plasmas is investigated at the ASDEX Upgrade tokamak. It is shown that a stepwise increase of the nitrogen seeding level increases

Global gyrokinetic simulations of electrostatic microturbulent transport in LHD stellarator with boron impurity

open access: yesNuclear Fusion, 2023
Global gyrokinetic simulations of electrostatic microturbulent transport for discharge # 166256 of the Large Helical Device stellarator in the presence of boron impurity show the co-existence of the ion temperature gradient (ITG) turbulence and trapped ...

Impurity seeding and scaling of edge parameters in ITER [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Nuclear Materials, 2009
Abstract ITER divertor and edge modelling with the ITER B2–EIRENE code including neutral–neutral and molecule–ion collisions has led to updated scaling of the helium density and flux and the DT flux with the pumping speed and the divertor neutral pressure.

Grain Boundary Space Charge Engineering of Solid Oxide Electrolytes: Model Thin Film Study

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates unprecedented control of grain boundary electrical properties in solid electrolytes. Selective diffusion of cations through grain boundaries in thin films enables 12 orders of magnitude variation in ionic resistance, proving that systematic chemical modification of grain boundary electrical properties is feasible.

High‐Rate FA‐Based Co‐Evaporated Perovskites: Understanding Rate Limitations and Practical Considerations to Overcome Their Impact

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Vacuum‐based deposition is promising for perovskite solar cells to be successfully commercialized. However, co‐evaporation, the most common vapor phase deposition technique, suffers from very low deposition rates. In this work, we reveal that high deposition rates can lead to carbon flakes depositing into the perovskite absorber layers due to material ...

Deuterium retention in tungsten and tungsten alloys exposed to pure and impurities seeding deuterium plasma

open access: yesNuclear Materials and Energy, 2020
Polycrystalline tungsten (W) and four kinds of tungsten alloys were exposed to pure and impurities seeding deuterium (D) plasma to investigate the deuterium retention behaviour. The results show that D retention in W increases with the increasing fluence

SOLPS-ITER drift modelling of JET Ne and N-seeded H-modes

open access: yesNuclear Materials and Energy, 2021
A numerical study is presented, using the SOLPS-ITER plasma boundary code with full drifts and currents activated, of impurity seeded JET discharges in support of high power H-mode experimental campaigns designed to compare two ITER candidate seeding ...

Novel inferences of ionisation & recombination for particle/power balance during detached discharges using deuterium Balmer line spectroscopy

open access: yes, 2019
The physics of divertor detachment is determined by divertor power, particle and momentum balance. This work provides a novel analysis technique of the Balmer line series to obtain a full particle/power balance measurement of the divertor.

Reconfigurable Magnetic Soft Microrobot for Acoustically Triggered Targeted Bacterial Sterilization

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Reconfigurable magnetic soft microrobots integrate in situ‐grown piezoelectric zinc oxide nanorods that produce reactive oxygen species upon acoustic excitation. Combining magnetically guided transport with thermally induced planar reconfiguration, the microrobots achieve targeted delivery and enhanced bacterial sterilization through efficient on ...
