In situ measurement and micromachining of glass

MHS'99. Proceedings of 1999 International Symposium on Micromechatronics and Human Science (Cat. No.99TH8478), 2003
Glass substrates were micromachined using electro chemical discharge machining. The developed tool holder allows to scan the substrate surface as well as machining it in a closed loop. The developed control algorithm for drilling holes allows to achieve relatively high machining speeds (up to 30 /spl mu/m/s) and deep structures (up to 1 mm).

In-situ piston measurements

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part J: Journal of Engineering Tribology, 2004
Measurements are reported of piston secondary motion, piston ring motion, piston ring oil-film thicknesses, piston ring pack oil chemistry, piston friction and piston temperatures, using a variety of experimental techniques on running engines. These in-situ measurements have highlighted a number of interesting effects, of importance to both the piston ...

In situ measurement of soil pH

Journal of Archaeological Science, 2004
Soil pH is one of the most important factors affecting the in situ preservation of archaeological artefacts of e.g. bone, shells and iron. It is therefore important to have good, reliable methods for determining the pH. However, in all methods that involve sampling of soil or water, loss of gaseous species such as carbon dioxide from the samples as ...

Solid Microelectrodes for In Situ Voltammetric Measurements

Electroanalysis, 2003
AbstractSolid Au and Ag microelectrodes for both, model, and in situ voltammetric measurements, have been designed and tested. Amalgamation procedure and the parameters of measurement procedure are discussed. Differences between gold and silver electrodes were studied.

In situ measurement of sorptivity

Australian Journal of Soil Research, 1969
Measurements of sorptivity are reported for a number of field soils. The main method, used in situ, is simple and consists of timing initial vertical flow of water into an undisturbed soil profile. This method relies on the assumption that, during the measurement time of 1-2 min, the first term of the infiltration equation i = St1/2 + At + Bt3/2 ...

Autonomous in Situ Measurements of Seawater Alkalinity

Environmental Science & Technology, 2014
Total alkalinity (AT) is an important parameter for describing the marine inorganic carbon system and understanding the effects of atmospheric CO2 on the oceans. Measurements of AT are limited, however, because of the laborious process of collecting and analyzing samples.

In-situ measurement of cylindricity

1990
A new method is developed for in-situ measurement of cylindricity of workpiece by using an extended principle of 3-point roundness measurement. Different from the measurement performed on a dedicated measuring instrument, the workpiece form error is measured right on the working position by utilizing the spindle rotation and feed motion of the machine ...

Tissue Viability Measurement by In Situ Fluorometry

ASAIO Journal, 1992
A prototype laser-fiber optic based sensor for in situ monitoring of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NADH) has been developed. This system is based on a compact neodymium-yttrium-aluminum-garnet (Nd:YAG) laser with associated harmonic generators.

Reliability of in situ Measurements of Colorectal Polyps

Scandinavian Journal of Gastroenterology, 1992
A reliable and sensitive in situ method for measuring polyp size is fundamental for growth studies of colonic polyps. A measuring probe inserted through a colonoscope can give a visual assessment of polyp diameter, and from a picture of the polyp the area of the polyp on the picture can be calculated by computerized analysis.

In-Situ and Ex-Situ Measurement of Stresses in Environmental Barrier Coatings

Volume 2: Ceramics and Ceramic Composites; Coal, Biomass, Hydrogen, and Alternative Fuels
Abstract Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMCs) offer a step improvement in temperature capability over the current best high temperature super alloys for gas turbine applications. Silicon Carbide (SiC) based CMCs react with water vapor at temperature and therefore need an Environmental Barrier Coating (EBC) for protection against the water ...
