In Situ Measurement of Oil Slick Thickness
IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement, 2019During an oil spill response, one of the main challenges is the ability to measure, in situ and in real time, the oil slick thickness at different locations throughout the slick. This paper presents an instrument that can respond to this need by employing a capacitive-based sensor designed for oils of different viscosities.

In situ measurements of enzyme activities in the brain
The Histochemical Journal, 1993The present review focuses on enzymes involved in the metabolism of amino acid neurotransmitters and the microphotometric determinations of their activities in various layers of the rat hippocampus. The enzymes are NAD-linked isocitrate dehydrogenase (NAD-ICDH), glutamate dehydrogenase (GDH), and GABA transaminase (GABAT), all of which are localized in

Measurement of in situ rates of nitrification in sediment
Microbial Ecology, 1980A method has been developed for the measurement of nitrification rates in intact sediment cores without disturbing the concentration gradients of oxygen and ammonium. N-serve (2-chloro-6-trichloromethyl-pyridine), a specific inhibitor of the autotrophic ammonium oxidation, was injected into a 0-2 cm surface layer of the sediment (20 ppm) and added to ...

In situ measurements of middle atmosphere composition
Journal of Atmospheric and Terrestrial Physics, 1979Experimental data based on aircraft, balloon and rocket measurements of trace species in the middle atmosphere are briefly reviewed. Some ground based observations are also included where no other information is available. The scarcity of values relevant to the vertical distributions is emphasized as well as the lack of knowledge of time and geographic

Robotization of “in situ” acoustic measurements
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of AmericaCurrently, “in situ” acoustic measurements require a high level of human involvement. Measurements are carried out by technicians or engineers, and most of the time, two people are required. MJM Acoustical Consultants Inc. has explored the possibility of using an autonomous and semi-autonomous robotic solution to assist in the measurement process ...
