Unraveling structural evolution of LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4 by in situ neutron diffraction
Journal of Materials Chemistry A, 2013The electrochemical properties of the spinel LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4 cathode material are influenced by the synthesis processes, which determines the impurity phase and the distribution of Ni and Mn in the spinel structure. Taking advantage of neutron's high sensitivity to Ni and Mn, in situ neutron diffraction has been employed to quantify the phase formation ...

High temperature in situ neutron powder diffraction of oxides
J. Mater. Chem. A, 2014Neutron powder diffraction (NPD) is a powerful tool for the characterization of oxides. Unlike X-ray diffraction where scattering occurs from the electron cloud, neutrons interact with the atomic nucleus enabling direct characterization of the oxygen sublattice.

In situ observation and neutron diffraction of NiTi powder sintering
Acta Materialia, 2014Abstract This study investigated NiTi powder sintering behaviour from elemental powder mixtures of Ni/Ti and Ni/TiH 2 using in situ neutron diffraction and in situ scanning electron microscopy. The sintered porous alloys have open porosities ranging from 2.7% to 36.0%.

Investigating the Phase Transitions of Graphite By In Situ Neutron Diffraction
ECS Meeting Abstracts, 2014Graphite is one of the most common negative electrode materials in today’s lithium-ion batteries [1]. Intensive research has revealed most of its thermodynamic properties [2-5] and modeling of its free energy was able to determine some of these properties like the phase diagram and the staging phenomena to some extent [6, 7].

In situneutron powder diffraction studies
Physical Sciences Reviews, 2019AbstractNeutron powder diffraction provides insight into the crystal and magnetic structures of materials. This insight can be achieved on pure materials under ambient conditions, but for greater understanding of the relationship between structure and function, crystallographic information during a process can prove powerful for rational material ...

In situ neutron diffraction observations of Ti-TiB composites
Composites Part A: Applied Science and Manufacturing, 2019Abstract This paper characterizes and evaluates TiB/Ti composites during thermal treatment using in situ neutron diffraction. The composites were developed using a conventional press and sinter technique. Pure titanium (Ti) was chosen as the matrix, and different concentrations of TiB 2 were used as the boron source for the in situ development ...

In-Situ Neutron Diffraction Experiments
2017Neutron powder diffraction has been extensively used to probe the structure-property relationships within materials of technological importance in the fields of energy production and storage. Typically, these exploit the sensitivity of the neutron technique to the locations of light elements such as hydrogen, lithium and oxygen in the presence of ...

In situ observation of the formation of TiC from the elements by neutron diffraction
Journal of Alloys and Compounds, 2007Abstract In situ neutron diffraction has been employed to investigate the formation of TiCx from the elements at relatively low temperatures, beginning at T ∼ 1073 K. Slow heating of the mixture of the elements precludes the generation of sufficient heat to induce a self-propagating high temperature synthesis (SHS), reported in the literature ...

In-situ neutron powder diffraction study of annealing activated LaNi5
Journal of Alloys and Compounds, 2002Abstract In-situ neutron powder diffraction measurements and the Rietveld refinement technique have been used to study a fully hydrogen activated LaNi 5 alloy during annealing in the temperature range 293 to 1123 K. Diffraction data were analysed by imposing a dislocation-induced anisotropic line broadening model, to reveal the variation of ...
