Thermally Induced Rock Stress Increment And Rock Reinforcement Response

open access: yes, 2016
The thermal heating caused by the deposition of spent nuclear fuel containers increases the in situ rock stress during disposal time. The thermal stress increase was modelled using thermo-mechanical modelling.

In Situ Stress Measurement Techniques on Li-ion Battery Electrodes: A Review

open access: yes, 2017
Li-ion batteries experience mechanical stress evolution due in part to Li intercalation into and de-intercalation out of the electrodes, ultimately resulting in performance degradation.

High‐Temperature Nanoindentation of Metals: Assessing Thermal Drift, Frame Compliance, and Chemical Composition Effects on the Reported Mechanical Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Do not let thermal drift and instrument artifacts deceive high‐temperature nanoindentation results. We compare classical Oliver–Pharr and automatic image recognition analyses across steels and a Ni alloy to quantify these effects. Accounting for artifacts reveals systematic softening with temperature, while Cr and Ni additions boost resistance ...

Creep Properties and Deformation Mechanism of Additively Manufactured NiAl‐CrMo Composites

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Additively manufactured NiAl‐CrMo composites contain numerous interfaces and cell boundaries that control their creep response. At 700°C under high applied stress, creep is dominated by dislocation‐controlled power‐law mechanisms. At 800°C–900°C and lower stresses, creep is primarily diffusion‐controlled along cell boundaries.

Changes in Lateral Stress During Slurry Trench Wall Installation.

open access: yes, 1996
PhDThe thesis is concerned with the effects of slurry trenching (diaphragm wall installation) in an overconsolidated clay, with particular emphasis on the changes in lateral stress which occur. A review of the literature on diaphragm wall installation

Current Status and Challenges in Data Collection for Aerospace Coatings Deposited by Plasma Spraying

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An innovative approach has been integrated into the GRENAT project to optimize plasma spraying and coating performance. Raw materials are accelerated and melted in the plasma generated by torches, creating coatings. Monitoring sensors collect process data which are combined with ex situ characterization data.

In Situ Micromechanical Study of Bimodal γ′–γ″ Precipitate Assemblies in Ni–Cr–Al–Nb Superalloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A Ni–Cr–Al–Nb superalloy with a bimodal γ′–γ″ precipitate distribution is developed. Composite precipitate assemblies form through heterogeneous nucleation, effectively impeding dislocation motion. Micropillar compression reveals high strength at room and elevated temperatures, governed by precipitate shearing, with coupled faulting mechanisms ...

Research and application of small-diameter hydraulic fracturing in situ stress measurement system

open access: yes
Abstract. Observation and estimation of the stress state in the deep crust is a crucial challenge in in situ stress measurement work. The hydraulic fracturing method is an important borehole-based technique for absolute in situ stress ...

Effect of interlamellar spacing on the elastoplastic behavior of C70 pearlitic steel: Experimental results and self-consistent modeling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The effect of pearlite microstructure characteristics on strength and deformation of C70 pearlitic steel was investigated. Tensile tests under X-ray diffraction coupled with self-consistent model have been used to identify the role of interlamellar ...
