In vitro degradation and total gas production of byproducts generated in the biodiesel production chain

open access: yesActa Scientiarum: Animal Sciences, 2015
This study aimed to evaluate the in vitro degradation and total gas production of different oil seed press cakes from a biodiesel production chain gas through the use of a semi-automatic technique of gas production in vitro. The treatments consisted of substituting elephant grass in increasing levels, 0%, 30, 50 and 70%, with the byproducts of ...

Tissue‐Stimulator Platform for Electrically Stimulating Pancreatic β‐Cells for Long‐Term Functional Regulation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We present a tissue‐stimulator platform for seamless electrode integration with pancreatic tissue, applying uniform electrical stimulation through optimized design with biohybrid 3D printing. Advantageous effects of electrical stimulation on β‐cell function were observed, including enhanced calcium signaling, islet morphology, and maturation.

Influence of calcium propionate on in vitro fermentation of sorghum-based diets

open access: yesRevista de la Facultad de Ciencias Agrarias, 2017
The objective of the present study was to evaluate the effect of calcium propionate (CaPr) on in vitro ruminal fermentation using a factorial arrangement 2 x 2 evaluating CaPr (0 vs. 1%) and grain level (55 vs. 65%). There was a CaPr x Grain interaction

Effects of supplementing vitamin E on in vitro rumen gas production, volatile fatty acid production, dry matter disappearance rate, and utilizable crude protein

open access: yesCzech Journal of Animal Science, 2015
Two in vitro trials were carried out to study the effects of supplementing vitamin E (VE) on rumen fermentation. In Trial I, four levels of VE product (purity 50%), i.e.

Ultrasmall Platinum Nanoparticles for Radiation‐Enhanced Cancer Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work proposes a nanomedicine‐based strategy to enhance X‐ray radiotherapy for cancer treatment. Ultrasmall Pt‐NPs exhibit catalase‐like activity that may contribute to modulation of the tumor microenvironment and amplify interactions between radiation and biological matter, leading to increased DNA damage.

Homoacetogenesis as an alternative hydrogen sink in the rumen : a thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Microbiology and Genetics at Massey University, Palmerston North, New Zealand. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Ruminant livestock contribute significantly to global greenhouse gas emissions. This is due to microorganisms, known as methanogens that generate methane from hydrogen and carbon dioxide during feed fermentation in the rumen.

Factors affecting penicillium roquefortii (penicillium glaucum) in internally mould ripened cheeses: implications for pre-packed blue cheeses [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The amount and vivid colour of blue veins of internally mould ripened cheeses are desirable quality characteristics. It is therefore important that there is a sufficient amount of veining and that it maintains its blue appearance to be appealing to ...

EFFECT OF POLYETHYLENE GLYCOL ON IN VITRO GAS PRODUCTION AND DIGESTIBILITY OF TANNIN CONTAINING FEEDSTUFFS FROM NORTH AFRICAN ARID ZONE

open access: yesTropical and Subtropical Agroecosystems, 2009
The influence of tannins present in arid zone forages from North Africa: Aristida plumosa, Danthonia forskahlii, Astragalus gombiformis, Genista saharae, two date palm fractions (leaves and racemes), and vetch-oat hay taken as control on in vitro gas ...
