Molecular immunotoxicology testing in vitro

Toxicology in Vitro, 1994
Analysis of the modulation of expression of key immunoregulatory cytokines has significant potential for the development of in vitro immunotoxicological screening assays. Many techniques are available to analyse cytokine mRNA expression in cultures derived from specific immune cell populations; in our hands reverse transcription-polymerase chain ...

In vitro tests of neurotoxicity

Journal of Pharmacological and Toxicological Methods, 1993
This review presents some of the newer techniques in the rapidly advancing area of neurotoxicity testing in vitro. They are not described at length, and more details can be obtained from the cited references. In vitro testing offers the possibility of relatively inexpensive screening of large numbers of pharmaceutical compounds, formulations, and ...

In vitro steroidogenesis in feline testes

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Lipids and Lipid Metabolism, 1973
Abstract Testosterone was produced in vitro from pregnenolone, progesterone, 17αhydroxyprogesterone, dehydroepiandrosterone and androstenedione by supernatant fluid at 10000 × g of feline testicular homogenates. In the presence of NADPH alone, lya-hydroxylation of pregnenolone by the microsomal fraction (10000–105000 × g precipitate) was markedly ...

In vitro allergy testing

International Forum of Allergy & Rhinology, 2014
BackgroundHistory and physical examination are the first, and most important steps, in the evaluation of a patient suspected of having an allergy. The diagnosis can be confirmed with either skin or serum testing for evidence of immunoglobulin E (IgE)‐mediated reactivity.MethodsThe recent literature on serum‐based testing for the detection and ...

Validity of in Vitro Testing

Drug Metabolism Reviews, 1990
In summary, the extent of toxicity studies which can be carried out with bound residues of nitroimidazole drugs will be dictated by the availability and the amount of residues that can be produced. For evaluating their toxicity the use of the Salmonella assay, which has been proven to be sensitive for the parent drugs, is proposed.

Review: In vitro spermicidal tests

Contraception, 1996
This review analyzes in vitro spermicidal tests that have been used to evaluate the spermicidal activity of contraceptive products. Special requirements and processes in numerous technologies were also reviewed. Nonoxynol-9 (N-9) was used as an example of a vaginally delivered spermicidal agent, and its spermicidal potency was compared by various ...

IN VITRO TESTING FOR ALLERGY DIAGNOSIS

Otolaryngologic Clinics of North America, 1998
The measurement of specific IgE antibodies has progressed so that highly reproducible, accurate, and quality-controlled tests are available [62]. These tests can certainly assist all physicians in evaluating allergic problems and are likely to be used widely in the future.

In Vitro Tests

1979
The radioimmunoassay (RIA) method was first developed by S. A. Berson and R. S. Yallow in the late 1950s for the determination of insulin in human serum. Presently, the method is employed extensively to determine numerous hormones, enzymes, and drugs in minute quantities (10-9–10-12 M) in human plasma in order to assess various disease conditions.

Phytates in decalcification tests in vitro

Archives of Oral Biology, 1967
Abstract A material rich in phytate, and containing also calcium and magnesium, was isolated from wheat bran and shown to reduce decalcification by acid buffers. Sodium phytate had a similar effect, and was used to investigate the mechanism by which decalcification was suppressed.

In Vitro Tests for Immediate Hypersensitivity

Annual Review of Medicine, 1988
In vitro measurement of IgE antibodies in serum has an established role in the study of allergic disease, but the place of in vitro tests in routine diagnosis is not well established. They are particularly helpful in confirming new allergens in the workplace and in situations where skin testing is potentially dangerous or technically not feasible.
