Blocking STAT3 signaling augments MEK/ERK inhibitor efficacy in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma

open access: yesCell Death and Disease, 2022
Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is one of the world’s leading causes of death, and its primary clinical therapy relies on surgical resection, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and chemoradiotherapy.

Genetic polymorphism of the Dab2 gene and its association with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in the Chinese Uyghur population [PDF]

open access: yesPeerJ, 2023
Objective The human Disabled-2 (Dab2) protein is an endocytic adaptor protein, which plays an essential role in endocytosis of transmembrane cargo, including low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C).

On the incidence maps of incidence structures

open access: yesArs Mathematica Contemporanea, 2021
By using elementary linear algebra methods we exploit properties of the incidence map of certain incidence structures with finite block sizes. We give new and simple proofs of theorems of Kantor and Lehrer, and their infinitary version. Similar results are obtained also for diagrams geometries. By mean of an extension of Block’s Lemma on the number of

Dysregulation of Ketone Body Metabolism Is Associated With Poor Prognosis for Clear Cell Renal Cell Carcinoma Patients

open access: yesFrontiers in Oncology, 2019
Kidney is an important organ for ketone body metabolism. However, the role of abnormal ketone metabolism and its possible function in tumorigenesis of clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) have not yet been elucidated.

Mapping incidences [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the London Mathematical Society, 2011
We show that any finite set S in a characteristic zero integral domain can be mapped to the finite field of order p, for infinitely many primes p, preserving all algebraic incidences in S. This can be seen as a generalization of the well-known Freiman isomorphism lemma, and we give several combinatorial applications (such as sum-product estimates).

Asymptotic enumeration of incidence matrices [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
We discuss the problem of counting {\em incidence matrices}, i.e. zero-one matrices with no zero rows or columns. Using different approaches we give three different proofs for the leading asymptotics for the number of matrices with $n$ ones as $n\to ...

Collateral circulation caused by end-stage hepatic alveolar echinococcosis

open access: yesBMC Infectious Diseases, 2023
Background Hepatic alveolar echinococcosis (HAE), as a benign parasitic disease with malignant infiltrative activity, grows slowly in the liver, allowing sufficient time for collateral vessels to emerge in the process of vascular occlusion.

Scharnhorst effect at oblique incidence [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
We consider the Scharnhorst effect (anomalous photon propagation in the Casimir vacuum) at oblique incidence, calculating both photon speed and polarization states as functions of angle.

Reduction in the incidence of type 2 diabetes with lifestyle intervention or metformin.

open access: yesNew England Journal of Medicine, 2002
BACKGROUND Type 2 diabetes affects approximately 8 percent of adults in the United States. Some risk factors--elevated plasma glucose concentrations in the fasting state and after an oral glucose load, overweight, and a sedentary lifestyle--are ...
