Incidental Learning as a Function of Degree of Intentional Learning

Psychological Reports, 1965
In an extended replication of a study by Bahrick (1957), Ss were instructed to learn a serial list of nonsense syllables each of which was enclosed in a form. Depending upon the treatment group, Ss either had one trial or trials were repeated until either 25%, 50%, 100%, 150%, or 200% serial learning was attained.

INDIVIDUAL DIFFERENCES IN INTENTIONAL AND INCIDENTAL LEARNING

British Journal of Psychology, 1957
This study investigates the role of linguistic habits in the intentional and incidental learning of verbal materials. The stronger the differential responses evoked by the stimulus items the better they are recalled.

The chapter will draw comparisons between EIL and input enhancement (IE). Input enhancement (Sharwood-Smith, 1981, 1993) consists of overt increases in the perceptual salience of target items, and is

Retention of Intentional and Incidental Motor Learning

Research Quarterly. American Alliance for Health, Physical Education and Recreation, 1978
Abstract Eighty naive subjects produced and recalled a series of four linear arm-positioning movements. Half the subjects had instructions to learn the movements and the remainder thought they were participating in a distance estimation task. The groups were subdivided and recall was tested after 0, 36, 60, and 600 seconds.
