Indacaterol for the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
The need for a rapid onset of action and a long duration of the broncholytic effect is the likely reason for the development of new long-acting β2-agonists (LABAs) that are fast acting and have true 24 h duration of action. Indacaterol is the archetype of once-daily LABAs and already marketed as a maintenance therapy in patients with moderate to severe

Temporal and Partial Reversal of Airflow Limitation in Patients With COPD Treated With Single-Inhaler Long-Acting Dual Bronchodilators. [PDF]
Single‐inhaler dual bronchodilator therapy significantly improved FEV1, FEV1/FVC, and other spirometry parameters in patients with COPD. The improvements in FEV1 and FEV1/FVC exhibits different trends. Notably, 21 patients (11.5%) achieved a reversal of the FEV1/FVC ratio to over 70%.

Updates in COPD Management: From Inflammatory Pathways to Targeted Therapies. [PDF]
COPD is a heterogeneous disease driven by overlapping neutrophilic and eosinophilic inflammatory pathways. This review highlights the shift from symptom‐based treatment toward phenotype‐ and biomarker‐directed care. Blood eosinophils, FeNO, and IgE predict corticosteroid responsiveness and identify candidates for biologic therapy.

A Comparison of the Molecular Pharmacological Properties of Current Short, Long, and Ultra-Long-Acting β2-Agonists Used for Asthma and COPD. [PDF]
ABSTRACT β‐agonists have been used in asthma for 120 years. There are two recent changes: ultra‐long‐acting agonists for COPD and new asthma guidelines recommending formoterol/ICS inhalers phasing out short‐acting salbutamol inhalers. Few studies directly compare the molecular pharmacological properties of short (salbutamol, terbutaline, fenoterol ...

Indacaterol for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
Indacaterol (Onbrez), previously known as QAB-149-AFA, is a novel ultra-long-acting beta2-adrenoceptor agonist that was recently approved by the European Commission as a new once-daily maintenance bronchodilator treatment of airflow obstruction in adult patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
