Thermoluminescence characteristics of sodium chloride salt‐stressed Indian mustard seedlings

AbstractThe thermoluminescence (TL) parameters in the intact leaves and the thylakoids isolated from leaves of NaCl treated seedlings showed different patterns of change. NaCl treatment brings about a destabilization of QA and QB, leading to a decrease in Q and B bands in the leaves.

Ion-Exchange Aspects of Toxic Metal Uptake by Indian Mustard

Uptake of lead (Pb), copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), and cadmium (Cd) as +2 ions by excised roots of Indian mustard was demonstrated to be an ion-exchange process with existing Ca or protons released to the solution. This initial reaction at the root-aqueous interface is important in the uptake of these toxic metals from contaminated soil.

A Defensin Gene of Indian Mustard is Stress Induced

A full-length 956 by gene coding for a defensin (BjD) with an open reading frame of 243 by capable of coding for a peptide of 81 amino acids was cloned from mustard (Brassica juncea). Iso-electric point and the molecular mass of the deduced BjD protein were predicted to be 8.7 and 8.61 kD, respectively.
