The Subjectivity of Indicative Conditionals

2003
AbstractDiscussion of reasons for approaching indicative conditionals in terms of subjective rather than objective probability. The reasons include stand‐offs of the sort Gibbard has presented: cases where two right‐thinking people with partial information accept conflicting conditionals.

Indicative conditionals, conditional probabilities, and the “defective truth-table”: A request for more experiments

open access: yesThinking and Reasoning, 2012
While there is now considerable experimental evidence that, on the one hand, participants assign to the indicative conditional as probability the conditional probability of consequent given antecedent and, on the other, they assign to the indicative ...

The Logic of Indicative Conditionals

2003
AbstractExpounds, mainly on the basis of Adams's work, the logic of indicative conditionals—with some help from his adaptation of Venn diagrams. Failure for indicatives of or‐to‐if, contraposition, transitivity, and antecedent strengthening. Controversy over whether modus ponens holds for indicatives. Independent indicatives identified and snubbed.

The elastic nonveridicality property of indicative conditionals [PDF]

open access: yesLinguistics Vanguard: Multimodal Online Journal, 2019
Indicative conditionals are known to have the semantic property of nonveridicality, that is, they do not entail the truth of the antecedent. In this paper, I argue that the nonveridicality property of indicative conditionals is elastic in that it can be ...

An investigation into the online processing of counterfactual and indicative conditionals [PDF]

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of Experimental Psychology, 2009
The ability to represent conditional information is central to human cognition. In two self-paced reading experiments we investigated how readers process counterfactual conditionals (e.g., If Darren had been athletic, he could probably have played on the

Indicative Conditionals

Philosophia, 1975
AbstractAims to reconcile a unified semantic account of conditional statements with an apparent contrast between the logics of indicative and ”subjunctive” conditionals. The difference between the two kinds of conditionals is explained in terms of different constraints imposed on the contexts relative to which the different forms of conditionals are ...

Indicative conditionals

Dialogue and Universalism, 1995
Examples of indicative conditionals are ‘If it rained, then the match was cancelled’ and ‘If Alex plays, Carlton will win’. The contrast is with subjunctive or counterfactual conditionals, such as ‘If it had rained, then the match would have been cancelled’, and categoricals, such as ‘It will rain’.

AN INDICATOR OF MONETARY CONDITIONS FOR TURKEY

Ekonomik Yaklasim, 2010
In this study, a Monetary Conditions Index (MCI) for Turkey is constructed for the 2003-2008 period, using a VAR methodology. The MCI weights are estimated on the basis of generalized accumulated responses of the inflation rate to one standard deviation shock to the real short term interest rate and the real rate of appreciation.

Financial Conditions Indicator for Brazil [PDF]

open access: possible, 2017
This paper proposes a methodology for constructing a Financial Conditions Indicator (FCI) based on factor analysis and the approaches of Brave and Butters (2011) and Aramonte et al. (2013). A selected set of variables is used and their information content aggregated into a single index that summarizes the overall financial conditions of the economy ...
