Indices of condition in tropical ruminants
African Journal of Ecology, 1972SummaryBone marrow dry weight expressed as a percentage of its fresh weight was found to be a good indication of its fat content in wildebeest, kongoni, and buffalo. The calculated regression equations were similar enough to suggest a more general formula for the larger ruminants.Bone marrow fat is mobilized after the kidney fat and hence is a better ...

Our objective in this section is to establish a prima facie case for the appropriateness of assessing the soundness or rationality of deductive inferences in terms of a new requirement or criterion of rationality beyond the usual truth-conditional criterion: that it should be impossible for the premises of an inference to be true while its conclusion ...

Indicative Conditionals and Conditional Probability
1980It has been suggested repeatedly in the literature of conditionals that there is an intimate connection between conditionals and conditional probability. Let us symbolize the indicative conditional as ⌐PJ CQ¬.

Indicative and Subjunctive Conditionals
The Philosophical Review, 1979Indicative and subjunctive conditionals have different truth conditions. I seek to account for this difference within the general possible-worlds framework developed by Stalnaker and Lewis. I argue that their truth conditions hold for indicative conditionals, and that similar but different conditions hold for subjunctive conditionals.

Abstract A Monetary Conditions Index (MCI), a weighted average of the short-term interest rate and the exchange rate, has commonly been used, at least for open economies, as a composite measure of the stance of monetary policy. The MCI concept is based on empirical findings that inflationary pressures are determined by excess aggregate ...

On Assertion and Indicative Conditionals
The Philosophical Review, 1979T he circumstances in which it is natural to assert the ordinary indicative conditional "If P then Q" are those in which it is natural to assert "Either not P or, P and Q." and conversely. For instance, the circumstances in which it is natural to assert "If it rains, the match will be cancelled" are precisely those in which it is natural to assert ...

Indicative and Subjunctive Conditionals
The Philosophical Quarterly, 2001In any plausible semantics for conditionals, the semantics for indicatives and subjunctives will resemble each other closely. This means that if we are to keep the possible-worlds semantics for subjunctives suggested by Lewis, we need to find a possible-worlds semantics for indicatives.

Condition Indicators for Gears
Annual Conference of the PHM Society, 2012Diagnostics of faults in gears requires development of reliable condition indicators. A large number of condition indicators, which are based on statistical moments of the synchronous average and its derivatives (difference and residual signals) were previously suggested.
