Evaluation of internal markers as determinants of fecal dry matter output and digestibility in feedlot sheep

open access: yesSemina: Ciências Agrárias, 2017
This study aimed to evaluate the fecal recovery of the internal markers indigestible dry matter (iDM), indigestible neutral detergent fiber (iNDF), and indigestible acid detergent fiber (iADF) and to compare them as estimators of the fecal dry matter ...

Lycium barbarum Byproducts Modulate Rumen Fermentation, Enhance Digestive Enzyme Activity, and Improve Immune and Antioxidant Status in Grazing Sheep

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 2, February 2026.
Lycium barbarum byproducts (seeds and residue) in sheep diets increased acetic and propionic acid, digestive enzyme activity, and beneficial bacteria (Prevotella). Immune status (TP, ALB, GLB) and antioxidant capacity (SOD, GSH‐PX) improved, while waste metabolites (UA, BUN) and oxidative stress (MDA) decreased.

Effects of Chemical Composition on Forage Intake of Heifers Fed Hays of Different Species [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
Alfalfa, smooth bromegrass, and big bluestem hays harvested at two maturities differing by four weeks were fed at mature-to-immature hay ratios of 1:0, 2:1, 1:2, and 0:1 to yearling heifers in an experiment with a three 4 x 4 Latin square design with 14 ...

Dietary Bordão‐De‐Velho (Samanea tubulosa) Fruit Improves Grazing Beef Cattle Performance

open access: yesNew Zealand Journal of Agricultural Research, Volume 69, Issue 1, February 2026.
Integrated grass‐tree systems have been proposed to address socio‐ecological challenges in tropical cattle production. Bordão‐de‐velho (Samanea tubulosa), a legume tree native to the Amazon, is commonly found in degraded pastures and valued by farmers for its soil, forage, and livestock benefits.

Forest stand characteristics drive the macronutrient composition of Vaccinium winter forage for cervids

open access: yesEcological Applications, Volume 36, Issue 1, January 2026.
Abstract Shrubs of the genus Vaccinium serve as foundation species in boreal ecosystems as they define much of the structure of the ground vegetation and play key roles in many ecosystem services and processes. For example, Vaccinium myrtillus (bilberry) and Vaccinium vitis‐idaea (cowberry) constitute staple foods for several species of large ...
