Human gut, breast, and oral microbiome in breast cancer: A systematic review and meta-analysis

open access: yesFrontiers in Oncology, 2023
IntroductionDysbiosis characterises breast cancer through direct or indirect interference in a variety of biological pathways; therefore, specific microbial patterns and diversity may be a biomarker for the diagnosis and prognosis of breast cancer ...

Temporal and phylogenetic evolution of the sauropod dinosaur body plan [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The colossal size and body plan of sauropod dinosaurs are unparalleled in terrestrial vertebrates. However, to date, there have been only limited attempts to examine temporal and phylogenetic patterns in the sauropod bauplan.

Anthropomorphization as a method of working with indirect data

open access: yesLogos i Ethos
In ethology, anthropomorphization – the attribution of uniquely human characteristics to animals – is often criticized as unscientific. However, this approach seeks to reveal analogies between different species, a practice that finds parallels in ...

Generation of Monoclonal Antibodies against Variable Epitopes of the M Protein of Rabies Virus

open access: yesViruses, 2019
Rabies virus (RABV), the causative agent of rabies, is highly neurovirulent for warm-blooded animals with a mortality rate of up to 100%. The RABV matrix protein (M) is required for virus particle assembly and budding.

Sulfakinin Signaling Sense Circulating Fructose and Suppresses Food Consumption via Insulin‐Like Peptide in Bactrocera Dorsalis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study discovered a new pathway that tells fruit flies when to stop eating. It found that rising blood sugar (fructose) is detected by a sensor called GR43a. This triggers a chain reaction involving the satiety signal sulfakinin and its receptor, ultimately activating a final satiety signal, ILP5.

Predicting horizontal gene transfers with perfect transfer networks

open access: yesAlgorithms for Molecular Biology
Background Horizontal gene transfer inference approaches are usually based on gene sequences: parametric methods search for patterns that deviate from a particular genomic signature, while phylogenetic methods use sequences to reconstruct the gene and ...
