South China Sea throughflow impact on the Indonesian throughflow [PDF]
In 2008–2009 the Makassar throughflow profile changed dramatically: the characteristic thermocline velocity maximum increased from 0.7 to 0.9 m/sec and shifted from 140 m to 70 m, amounting to a 47% increase in the transport of warmer water between 50 and 150 m during the boreal summer. HYCOM output indicates that ENSO induced change of the South China

Climate Monitoring of the Indonesian Throughflow [PDF]
Despite growing recognition of the need to monitor the global ocean circulation, existing sensor networks are unable to observe certain key parts of the world ocean (see Figure 1). One such choke point is in the Indonesian seas, where the Indonesian Throughflow (ITF) flows from the Pacific Ocean to the Indian Ocean as an upper branch of the overturning

Interannual variations of the Indonesian throughflow [PDF]
The relationship of Indonesian throughflow (ITF) transport to the El Niño Southern Oscillation (ENSO) is investigated. Seasonal anomalies of ITF transport are found to be forced by anomalous local, alongshore (South Java) wind as well as by anomalous winds in the equatorial Pacific and Indian Oceans.

With their complex narrow passages and vigorous mixing, the Indonesian seas provide the only low-latitude pathway between the Pacific and Indian Oceans and thus play an essential role in regulating Pacific-Indian Ocean exchange, regional air-sea ...

Assessment of Indonesian Throughflow transports from ocean reanalyses with mooring-based observations [PDF]
The transport of heat and freshwater from the Pacific Ocean to the Indian Ocean via the Indonesian seas is commonly referred to as the Indonesian Throughflow (ITF). The interaction between the ITF and large-scale phenomena occurring from intraseasonal to

Changes of the thermocline depth (DOT) at the Sumba Island offshore are not well-known compared to the DOT changes in the Timor Sea, the main exit passage of the Indonesian Through-flow (ITF).

Despite its importance, sea surface paleoproductivity of the western Savu Strait is not well studied. Results from previous studies at the nearby Southwest Sumba and Sumba Strait might not be applicable due to the oceanographic difference.

Sources, fate, and pathways of Leeuwin Current water in the Indian Ocean and Great Australian Bight: A Lagrangian study in an eddy-resolving ocean model [PDF]
The Leeuwin Current is the dominant circulation feature in the eastern Indian Ocean, transporting tropical and subtropical water southward. While it is known that the Leeuwin Current draws its water from a multitude of sources, existing Indian Ocean ...
